A really nice throwback to y2k hack and slash fun. Naturally, being a rhythm game, there is an utter dependence on the audio which i personally found to be HEINOUSLY ANNOYING AND GAME BREAKING. Christ almighty I did not need this kind of throwback: the cringey, cliched action-comedy antics of early 00s Cartoon Network etc. The hero is effectively Link from the Saturday morning Zelda cartoon and that is by no means a compliment. The music was just repulsively silly to the point that I ended up just playing the game with the sound off entirely and ignored the rhythm element. If this is your thing, I'm glad you have a really well polished game to scratch the itch. As a huge fan of cartoons, I was so excited to try this, but I found it to be vapid and obnoxious. If this were released in 2004 it would likely have been commended for it's rhythm elements and written off as just another in a long line of mediocre action games with forgettable protagonists.
Just a big ol' pile of 'meh'. I could excuse lazy, hand-holdy and shallow gameplay if the narrative delivered but the jokes just didn't land with me and the voice acting was repetitive at best and more often irritating as hell. had high expectations based on how funny Trover Saves The Universe was but this is a lemon pie. What a shame.
all form and no function. awful puzzle design and generally careless game design that almost immediately fails to engage the player. the visuals are really well done but without proper pacing, engaging mechanics, or literally any reason to care they become monotonous once the shock wears off (which for me was very quickly). cool aesthetic, and very little else here, which is a shame since the concept is really cool.
Hyper Demon is a remarkable work of ludological purity, a tour de force not just exploring but liberating the joy of movement to new levels. it is a celebration of classic arcade action, a glimmering jewel of precisely tuned mechanics, all presented in a brave, daring design that commands attention and defies comparison. it shares rank with games like Geometry Wars or Quake, games that take the foundation of action as an artform and elevate them to dizzying new heights. The minimalist goal of climbing a leaderboard might not be quite enough for some, and the visuals are certainly bold enough to offend certain tastes, however if a fiercely challenging, psychedelic hellstorm of fluid yet sharp mechanics is something that piques your interest in the slightest: run as fast as you can to purchase this absolute work of art. final note: may cause excessive bleeding of the eyes (it's a good thing).
