This is a particular type of game that’s not for everyone but if you enjoy it, it’s best in class. There’s a lot of depth and elegance in the design. It’s an incredible game that’s hard to stop playing. I strongly recommend avoiding spoilers about how to do things optimally. The game is super replayable and progressing over multiple playthroughs is incredibly rewarding. If you enjoy programming, optimizing, debugging, or managing complexity then there’s a high chance you’ll love this game.

Fun climbing game! There’s a fair amount of jank and sometimes this “pro climber” fails to do things that I can very easily do as someone that’s terrible at climbing but the idea is so cool. Also they made the main character really annoying and cringe for no reason. Very odd choice the way she talks to others and complains constantly after a fall. But you can skip the cutscenes and ignore the complaining for the most part. I definitely recommend this game to anyone that likes climbing in real life.

This is a well made game, but it’s very difficult in a not very fun way and not balanced to be particularly fair in the early game. 2 damage contact damage means a lot of jank just gets you killed almost instantly requiring yet another run back. Despite the positives I’m just not enjoying it like the original. After taking a break and having no desire to play it again, my opinion of it has changed from “good but flawed” to “this is a bad game”.

A neat idea, executed well enough. After an hour or two of playing, however, the slow pace got to me and I got tired of rolling the dice with no metaprogression in sight. This is possibly a good game, but I didn’t find it particularly engaging. I can’t rate it highly though because if I had paid for this game, I’d have been disappointed. I got for free from PlayStation plus and probably won’t play it again. I feel perfectly content to let my late great uncle keep his weird house if it means I don’t have to super slowly walk through it hoping for good luck one more time.

The best 3D platformer since Mario 64. Also one of the best demonstrations of using all this modern compute and graphical processing power we have to execute classic genres with polish and style. Playing this game has brought me more joy than any other game in recent memory. It’s just really good.

I didn’t expect to like this game as much as I do and I never rate games a 10 but this is a game I can’t stop thinking about. That hasn’t happened since I was a child. I can’t say what exactly is so great about it because I agree with a lot of criticism of this game. It’s not perfect by any means, but it’s still incredible game and the only game in the past decade besides Factorio that I think truly deserves a 10/10.

Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon7

The worst modern FromSoft game and it’s not close. I’ve been playing only about an hour a day and I’m just on chapter 3 but I’ve already formed fairly strong opinions about the game. This game feels like the exact opposite of Sekiro. Sekiro is a game where player skill is more important than stats or in game items. Armored Core 6 is a game about knowing the correct answer to the question / guessing what the developer was thinking. Skill is still required, of course, but it is not sufficient. Multiple times on my playthrough I ran out of ammo and de facto lost at a boss. It feels terrible to be told that you already lost the fight before it started but you had to go 5+ minutes of playing well to find out that you didn’t guess what the developer was thinking correctly. When the game’s ideas work, it feels incredible to play. Unfortunately the great moments haven’t made up for the rest so far. It is a good game but it doesn’t meet FromSoft’s quality standards so far. I’ve platinumed all FromSoft’s games and I’ll probably do it for AC6 too. I’ll update this review after I get the platinum trophy for the game as my opinion is likely to change.
