While some of the frustrations of rubberbanding and hyper-animation driven on the field outcomes, rather than skill based outcomes, have been improved, there are still maddening (pun intended) things that happen all over the field, the interface is brutally clunky and slow, and I still can't believe we don't have historic teams as we did so many years ago. You don't need player licenses if you use different names/numbers, and just build the historic teams to specification, and allow the player to edit the rest. Until the Frostbite engine is scrapped, and the series totally rebooted, I fear we're going to continue to get absolute mediocrity time and time and time again. The blocking AI is ****...absolutely terrible. Just make room for other developers at this point, please.

Final Fantasy XVI5
Jun 26, 2023
I feel pretty disappointed. I just can't fathom the high critic scores here. Is it because it's a Final Fantasy game? Is it because it looks good? The game is so corridor-like and linear, with SO much of the game being cutscenes and QTEs. The gameplay is solid. Nothing fantastic, but solid when you DO get to play. Totally lacking RPG elements to the point where you really cant even call it an RPG? It's closer to an action game like bayonetta or devil may cry. The characters are largely bland outside a few stand-outs. Everything in this game is so underbaked...

Hard to believe they did so much to what is already a masterpiece on what amounted to a shadow drop. The modern controls and visuals are a thing of beauty. Once-in-a-generation game.

What a masterpiece. Bluepoint did a stellar job maintaining the integrity of the original game, while sharpening it's visuals. This is the launchpoint for the "Souls" genre. The atmosphere, difficulty, combat, and lore are incredible.

Godfall2

Its not entirely terrible, like some make it out to be. I mean, the graphics are good, the bosses are sort of interesting, and it has a great visual presentation. The game just suffers from monotony and repetition and the combat is bland - to the point where it feels outdated.

This game is brutally ugly, and a complete let down if you're a fan of the original. The gunplay is dull and lifeless, the graphics are terrible, and it's a buggy mess. What a bummer.

This is the first "strand" type game. It's the first strand game. Only I'm smart enough to understand why this game is so good.

Doesn't get any more shallow than No Guy Buy. Stick with Starbound or Space Engineers - Scifi games with actual depth of gameplay. Things like tacked on "base building" don't really do enough to save this thing from feeling empty and hollow.

Tumble VR2
Oct 13, 2016
I know we're all excited for VR, and I'm trying to be as positive as I can be with Tumble VR. The tracking is fairly reliable, and some of the block stacking puzzles are a bit interesting, but ultimately, it's just a dull experience. You're stacking blocks in VR. This is the kind of thing that I could do in REALITY and really it would be the same general experience. Fairly dull. If 5 out of 10 is an average game, this isn't even a 5, because it's barely a video game. It's a practice in monotony with a little bit of puzzle element.

Super Mario Maker10
Sep 11, 2015
What an incredible game. If you haven't heard, Super Mario Maker allows you to create, play, and share Mario levels. To have the physics down across 4 different Mario platforms, and the huge array of assets to build with makes this sandbox Mario game feel like something I could spent months or years with. I was floored with how much content is packed into the game. There are surprises and secrets around every corner. Are you in the Link costume? Push up, and you'll hold the triforce over your head. Want to shoot coins of a cannon instead of Bullet Bills? Just load it with coins. The creation tool is extremely flexible. I don't know just how great the community levels average out ot be, but they've been a blast thus far. Rarely do I hit a level I don't enjoy. If you have a Wii U, it's hard to come up with a single reason to skip this gem.

I've gone through all of the lessons and was surprised with how much It focuses on art theory to go with everything else. There are a LOT of mediums to choose from, which give a huge variety, and it all works extremely smoothly. This was very educational and useful, and I'm glad i picked it up.

Hyrule Warriors9

A review from someone who's never played Dynasty Warriors games. This game is amazing. You have to understand that it's more of an action game then an exploration type Zelda game. It's not a Zelda game at all, really. It's a fan service to Nintendo fans from the makers of Dynasty Warriors. Basically, you have 2 very important modes. The "story" mode and an "adventure" mode which consists of a maps loaded with levels that follow the layout of the original Zelda game, unlocking content as you beat these maps. The gameplay has you playing as various Zelda characters, using huge moves to wipe out massive hordes of monsters. You have capture points that you're trying to take over as you go. The gameplay is fun, though it can be a bit "mindless" (it does require some strategy and thought). Eventually you're trying to overwhelm the enemy and kill the map boss. Sound simple? It is pretty straight forward. Why is this game so amazing then? It's polished, very fun to play, but most importantly, the ENDLESS unlockables! Each character levels up to 255, they all have varied weapons, there's a loot system, a badge system which is a bit like a skill system, potion making, and all kinds of fun RPG type elements. There are costumes to unlock, heart containers to gather, skulltulas to kill, and on and on. I don't know that I've ever seen this much content jammed into a game. I'm about 75 hours in, and I'm not even 25% into unlocking all the content. When you want to relax to some relatively mindless gameplay, and still have a deep "reward" mechanism with unlockables, this game is fantastic. Perfect after a long day at the office.

Mario Party 109
Mar 21, 2015
Mario Party is an excellent entry point into the series! The mini games are crisp, fun, and a blast to play with others. If you're playing solo, the game is solid, but of course the most fun to be had is in couch co-op. The big thing in Mario Party 10 is that the person with the gamepad plays as bowser, and tries to kill off the other players. It makes for a fun social experiment, and it's sort of fun to play the villain role. The huge assortment of games will keep the experience fresh. If you're wondering about Amiibo usage, it basically opens up a very basic gameboard, with a relatively shallow experience. I did find that part of the game to be an afterthought. Thankfully there was enough content in the game to merit the purchase, and make for a great time thus far. As an experience with friends, your wife, your girlfriend, your husband, or your boyfriend, it's a blast!

Mario vs. Donkey Kong: Tipping Stars10
Mar 5, 2015
I wonder if "mainstream" video game media outlets are angry that the other console's AAA titles are flopping, and are trying to paint a more sour light around the big N. That's really the only way to explain giving this game anything less then an 8. Anyway: It's a nifty puzzle game, akin to Lemmings. You're trying to use the environment to funnel your ally to the end, all the while collecting stars and other things along the way. It's a very crisp game with extremely fun puzzle mechanics. The tipping feature adds a very nice touch as well. But alas, we could be playing "blockbuster titles" that are essentially 5 hour games, with 4 hours consisting of cut scenes and quick time events, all the while sites like IGN convince us at that $60, its the cat's meow.

Madden NFL 152

This is really becoming a problem for 360 users. 360 versions on cross-generation games are getting neglected severely, and are still being released for $50-60. Major reviewers aren't reviewing the 360 versions of games either, which is quite disingenuous. See Forza Horizon 2 on the 360. Anyway, this game is virtually identical to the Madden 25 on the 360. It's essentially a roster update. Anything positive you've heard about Madden 25 only applies to the next gen console versions, which are far superior. Save yourself $60. You can download user created, up to date rosters on Madden 25 and get nearly the exact same experience. Shame on EA.

Forza Horizon 21
Oct 23, 2014
Firstly: Notice 0 critics reviews. Coincidence? If you're expecting the same game as Forza Horizon 2 on the Xbox One, don't. It's not even developed by Turn 10/Microsoft. It was outsourced to Sumo Digital. This game is a shell of the Xbox One version. It's missing the promised free launch day DLC. Yes it was promised to both platforms. It's missing car types including open wheel cars. It's missing several other cars. It has no weather elements, it has half the radio stations. It's missing key online features such as public free roam online. It has half of the campaign races. It's visually impaired. In fact, it looks worse then the original Horizon. Stay away from the 360 version unless you want almost the exact experience of the original Horizon, just in a different location, and wonky visuals.
