Northgard

Northgard is one of the prettiest titles in the genre, and with a very addicting gameplay loop, players are sure to spend several dozen hours to it.

Northgard is a surprising, elegant RTS that's laden with a very dull story.

All in all, it has to be said that Northgard is an extremely promising premise. It has a good storyline with challenging campaigns. While there are some minor hiccups here and there, overall, it's an awesome addition to the RTS genre.

Veterans of the genre will love this mash-up, but newcomers will buckle under the weight. Writing aside, it’s a mighty fine attempt.

Northgard is a must-play game for fans of the genre and could serve as a very good starting point for the newcomers who are just discovering RTS games for the first time.

This town builder looks decent and it shows off some great mechanics. But if you want depth, you should look somewhere else.

Northgard is a refreshing and pleasing experience, thanks to the elements it draws from RTS, 4X and even management games.

The game is enjoyable enough to learn some game system. As time goes by, there are so many things to worry about that I get distracted. Most of them are resource management, so I'm not interested. It is historically realistic for Vikings to live by fishing, gathering, hunting, farming, and running blacksmiths, bards, and distilleries. But wasting an hour or more on this in a game is boring.

The Northgard UI in a nutshell: Huge notification that takes up a quarter of the screen and lingers for 30 seconds: ERIC THE RED'S WIFE has GAINED WEIGHT! He no longer FINDS HER ATTRACTIVE and it's causing a STRAIN ON THEIR MARRIAGE! 6 pixel icon in the lower left corner that you need to mouse over to read: The **** Dragon will attack your town in 60 seconds.

A very interesting and beautiful strategy game completely broken due to certain functional bugs. You decide which buildings to place in each region you own. Keep conquering more regions as you go along. Sounds good right? Wrong. There can be invaders. A simple wolf can easily kill 2-3 villagers because they're incapable of properly defending themselves. You're allowed ONLY 1 tower per region. That's it! And that 1 tower is good as useless in attacking because most of the time the enemies will break down the tower (without a single death). So you're basically left with defending with your warriors (which are severely limited BTW). Either you spread out to defend (you cannot attack with the remaining 1-2 units). OR, you focus on attacking and let the villagers die. To fix this problem, there should have been no limits on the number of towers, the villagers should have been stronger (or the towers should have been at least 3x stronger). Makes no sense to ever construct a tower. Another problem is earthquakes that will set fire to your buildings while the villagers stroll by and you search everywhere to find those buildings. Instead, the villagers could have repaired the buildings on their own rather than you having to micromanage them at that level.
