After an incredibly disappointing final season of Game of Thrones and the up-and-down House of the Dragon thus far, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms was an unexpected breath of fresh air. It's comedic, serious and completely different yet similar to the GoT shows that have come before it. It's well worth the watch, even if you have been out on other GoT shows. It's that good and also short!
In the last few years, Marvel TV shows have been rightly panned as they haven't been, well, good. Wonder Man has completely changed that. It's ridiculously entertaining with great performances from Yahya Abdul-Mateen II and Ben Kingsley in a superhero show but not strictly a superhero show. This is a show you could bang out in a day or, better yet, a few days. Put down your phone. It's worth it and I didn't think I would write that going into it.
The best way I can describe OMITB (like NKOTB but only older) is that it's a comfort food show: consistently good and worth going back to. It's a bit of a phenomenon in that it comes out consistently every year like clockwork which doesn't happen in TV these days. It never strays from its center line which is a positive and a slight negative. It's not a socially buzzy show that you're going to get spoiled by scrolling through social media. That also makes it easy to forget months after it comes out. Still, it's a nice bottle to pull off the shelf when you need a palate cleanse. Yes, you definitely have to suspend belief at times (especially in s5), but the trio of Steve Martin, Martin Short and Selena Gomez are incredibly charming and every season features unexpected guest stars who fit right in.
While outside the Yellowstone universe, this has been a welcome addition to the Sheridianverse. This has its over the top moments but apparently, so does the oil industry. Everyone plays their roles here really well and there's enough heart to overcome some of the wackiness.
It had its moments, but the chemistry between Jon Bernthal and Tessa Thompson wasn't there for me. The finale is a fun ride, though, with something I don't think anyone outside book readers will see coming. It's also very consumable in terms of episode length (most around 40-ish minutes) and total episodes (six). It's a fine entry into the thriller series, but not on the upper tier.
