This game really doesnt have a whole lot going for it. the artstyle is cool and it has pretty good graphics for a switch game. otherwise its just one of the most dreadfully unfun jrpgs i have ever played. boring maps, that are boring to explore with boring sidequests that most of the time will give you **** rewards. additionally a terrible old school save system that forces you to interrupt what youre doing every 15 minutes if you dont want to risk losing your progress to a random enemy that forces you into a fight with its hitbox 5x the size of its body. bossfights are an absolute slog as well. they are uninspired and the biggest challenge is not to fall asleep when chipping away at their obnoxiously big healthpools for what feels like 20 minutes. the combat is fine and capturing/fusing new demons is pretty cool as well but these few fun elements are wheighed down by too much **** to ever be really enjoyable.
not a bad game actually. i like the idea of an entire game thats basically just a boss rush and aside from the mind numbingly boring and terribly long walking sequences between fights i also enjoyed the gameplay.
but a game where you can accidentally trigger a secret ending halfway through, (even when youre deliberately trying not to get it) that deletes your save and forces you to start all over if you want to see the rest of the game, does not deserve a higher rating than this.
The game lost me when i reached the first boss and learned what its idea of difficulty is: bulletsponge fights. combine that with little to no variety between runs and obnoxiously long runbacks where even the most direct way to the boss can lead you through a dozen rooms full of enemies and mini bosses and you have a game that consist of a couple fun elements that come together as a pretty damn tedious slog.
