It's just bad I tried to give it a chance - but the acting is just cringe bad. The special effects and scenary are sub-par. And then there are the jarring things that make no sense - fire in space, crash landing from orbit, stone catching on fire. The dialogue is just atrocious.
Why does it have to be so heavy-handed with the messaging? I don't care who you cast - as long as you tell a good story. But this episode layers in the messaging in such obvious ways it takes you out of the story in jarring ways. I'm sorry I came back to the series.
After-school TV for 4th Graders ...I am so sick of Disney. They had magic for a while with Marvel - however, they've been pumping out bad acting, bad scripts, bad dialogue, bad plots, and bad action for many years now. It's like they don't even care any more. I cringe when I watch this show. I think I'm ready to give up my subscription at this point.
Visually Stunning, Awesome Musical Score, Great Acting, in Many Ways Better than Peter Jackson. I enjoyed the heck out of the first two episode. I'm so pissed at those review bombing this. This doesn't deserve it. To all you pre-disposed haters you're driving up the divisiveness in our culture - open you minds and stop being such "Negative Nellies".
In 3 Words: Cinematic, Beautiful, Engaging -- I feel like everyone hating on this has gotten too jaded and sensitive. I went into this expecting it to be a let down based on all the early negativity from some quarters. I was majorly super impressed by this. This is very well done - the sound track, the acting, it feels like something Peter Jackson might have done, the creativity of the scenery and the inspired sequences. I wish I could take all the predisposed haters off of santa's Christmas list. This was a highly enjoyable watch and Amazon needs to receive very positive kudos for what the created. To all you die-hard haters - you're making our culture worse not better.
Entertaining, well-paced, good dialogue, interesting take by Marvel ... only a few places that I cringed. Well done - not sure what the hate is about. My only frustration is short episodes - wished they released longer or in batches.
Entertaining, well-paced, good dialogue, a few cringe scenes - but overall, pretty enjoyable and I'm eager for the next episode - only frustration is that I wish the episodes were longer or released in batches
Not sure why this is getting a low score. I've been guilty of giving them from time to time. This is geared to a younger crowd, and about a different segment of our society. It's fun, interesting, and unique. The acting is great, the actors are great, the visuals are well done. I have major issues with some of the things Disney does (mostly SW) - but this isn't one of them. Have an open mind
Update Anyone else notice that all the new positive reviews (that recently popped up after episode 3) have no user history? It looks like the same thing is happening on RT The Force is weak with this one .... The acting of almost everyone else (except for EM and JE) just feels shallow. Including all the villains. The Special effects (and choreography) aren't that special - it feels a little better than what you might see on Doctor Who. I'm honestly thinking of giving up my Disney subscription. I was hoping that the Book of Bobba was just an aberration. Since this is based on the first three episodes, I'll revise if needed. (Update - I actually felt like laughing watching the big Vader / Obiwan encounter - it was that underwhelming - Obiwan ran just about as clumsily as Leia, Vader was presented in a weird way - weak, inconsistent with how he's been portrayed in the past). Why can't they get directors that are passionately committed to the material. Disney's goal in life is to troll the fans who've been with the franchise the longest.
Updated review - lots of good ingredients, but it fell short of perfection. Lead actor well chosen as were most of the spartans cast.. Season 1 just didn't have the epic feel that I was hoping for

This character has an undeniable presence! Amazon made a great casting decision. One point less than perfect because the plot felt formulaic at times - not as risky or daring as it could have been. Still - it was fun enough that I binged the entire series in less than two weeks. I wish they had more episodes coming out soon. Please Amazon - fast track this and get us 20 new episodes over the next year.
Brilliant first episode. There is nothing else like it on TV. I'm at a loss how to describe. Funny - Check; Unique - Check; Well choreographed action - check; Interesting Characters - Check; Knock you on your A$$ WTF moments - double Check. I hope this series has legs. I loved the heck out of episode 1.
BAD - What was bad about this series? The acting, plot, fight sequences, the Vespa team, the comically bad wookie, and it goes on and on. Parts of it felt so off you had to wonder if it was made by film students. What made it more jarring is that there were enough elements of Star Wars to give you just a bit of hope - before it was snatched away. It would have been better if they never released this series. It made me seriously consider ending my Disney subscription.
Holy Cow - What a Season! This was a masterclass in how to do a series. Great storylines - Zero filler. Awesome acting, heart, and unexpected twists. It's hard for me to think of a better show on television with as much heart and soul. Put them in for an Emmy - heck, give them an Oscar. They're the best - around.
Sopranos + Oz + the Wire = Riveting, Can't Look Away, Captivating TV - I'm enjoying this show greatly. Jeremy Renner does an excellent job as the lead. His performance draws you in. The casting from top to bottom is excellent. Another case where the critics seem to have another agenda in mind and are out of touch with what makes compelling viewing.
If you read the books you'll likely be disappointed. They ignored key plot points, skipped crucial character moments, an didn't show any faithfulness to how the first book wrapped up. The acting was a mixed bag. If you were thinking the quality would be game of thrones like - it fell very much short. I give Amazon credit for taking risks, but this feels like they wasted their money. They should have told the book fans that this was "inspired by the source material" and to expect substantial differences. I'm really frustrated with what they produced and frustrated in myself that I vested a lot of hope for this. I recommend Amazon cancel Season 2 and redirect the funds to some other worthy project.
This review is based on the first two episodes. Better than Wandavision, better than Falcon WS, even better than Loki. Nice pacing, interesting - Marvel TV appears to have found its stride.
Amending my review, in general it is a great show. Lots of heart. I watch it to decompress after a stressful day. Please extend for Season 5. However, season 3 is so heavy-handed with the social messaging - there should be drinking game devoted to it. It's so obvious that it is jarring. I can support the issues - but it is so over-the-top and most of it is presented without any nuance.
Absolutely awesome tv series. Great acting, great actors, great plots, great cinematography. The British format drives me nuts sometimes - only releasing a few episodes every year or two. That said, this is still really awesome.
Special effects are great. Everything else is grating. Some of my gripes have to do with using the destroy the past premise for the whole show. But it's just painful to watch.
Love the sci fi elements of this show. The acting is just incredible. The special effects are epic worthy. I just wish there was something to at least inspire a little bit of hope in this consistently dark tv show.
First season was absolute perfection. By season 2 it seems like they're coasting. I'm guessing/hoping this was because the pandemic affected the script and acting. Maybe season 3 will improve.
Although not perfect, it is a nice attempt to repair the franchise. Great to see the Star Wars universe brought to the small screen. I hope this is one of those series that steadily improves over time.
