Disclaimer: I'm more progressive, inclusive and pro-diversity than most people on Earth by far, I consider myself a "citizen of the universe" ( and if there's more than one, multiverse, you get the idea ), if my daughter came back home with a "insert whatever LGTBQ+ here" crystal/whatever based lifeform from the Andromeda/whatever galaxy and told me she loved "them" and wanted to spend her life with them, I wouldn't even blink an eye and instantly consider them part of the family, that's just how I was raised. That being said... None of Jar Jar Abram's and Kurtzman NuTrek is written for the Star Trek Enterprise and earlier fans, none of it. It's been co-opted, lobotomized, mainstreamified, commodified and zombified beyond recognition. The only thing keeping this undead abomination from keeling over and finally resting in peace is the brand recognition.
So they took one of the worst things from the first 2 seasons, and went full idiots on it ( Xenomorphs ). Then they took one of the worst aspects of the STD infection and went full idiots on it too ( appeal to emotions ADHD style everywhere ) . SNW was the only tolerable ST show, now it's just more Nu-Trek unpalatable nonsense. SKIP if you liked the old shows. If you like Nu-Trek's slop it's just more of the same... so... enjoy I guess?
Never thought I'd say this since Kelvin, but this actually looks good so far. Contrarily to DIS/PIC and co. Some real Trek for the TOS/TNG fans once. The Orville actually might have some competition now. We'll see.
As if they hadn't butchered the games and characters enough during casting, they pull a Mandalorian 2.0. The utter waste of potential in so few minutes is appalling. If you loved the games, avoid like the plague. Otherwise I guess the mainstream and normies will lap it up.
I have a hard time explaining how bad it is. I tried binge watching the first 3 episodes, couldn't do it without constantly fast-forwarding the boring parts AND THERE ARE A LOT. In the first 3 epîsodes, there are maybe 5, 10 minutes tops of ok'ish TV. Just forget it. It's horrible.
The only Trek you can get on TV right now. Once you're done, check out the Trek novels, avoid the STD infection, Poocard and Lower **** at all costs. Enjoy!
The same STD ADHD anti-trek "nu-trek" infection as the previous seasons, Poocard and Lower ****. Reeks of Kurtzman/mainstream crap from galaxies away. AVOID
The latest "dark matter" to come from CBS's bowel movements. For Trekkies, watch at your own risks. If on the other hand you're a Trekker and love the STD infection and Poocard, you'll probably feel right at home. As for me... *Pushes button on toilet and merrily watches as it goes down the drain along with the rest of CBS's crap.* Cheers!
It's a classic Kurtzman show. It's dystopian ( instead of being utopian ), dark and depressing ( instead of being uplifting and hopeful ), badly written despite being much easier to write drama in a darker, internal conflict ridden context versus writing in an utopian and uplifting, harmonious context. It still somehow manages to fall flat on its face with a blatant Mary Sue in the very 1st episode. While it tries very hard to get the older intellectual tension addicts Trekkies back on board while not leaving behind the newer action and emotional ride addicts Trekkers from DIS and Kelvin, it seems to tend toward catering more to the later having already action scenes centered around the Mary Sue in the 1st episode and countless strange and out of character ( self-righteous ) Picard emotional scenes *cough* tv interview *cough*. And if the leaks are to be believed, the show is set to go full ADHD DIS after the first 3-4 episodes. I had high hopes that the show would get Star Trek back to its harder utopian, uplifting, hopeful, we can do better and cooperate, brain stimulating roots. Sadly, the way it looks, I fear it's really just more of the same quicker, easier, more seductive Kurtzman mainstream wannabe money grabbing, dark and depressing dystopian, look how "edgy" it is, exhausting and draining internal conflict and petty bickering action/emotional rides we had since Kelvin. Trekkers will love it, for everyone else, there's The Orville.
Don't listen to the pundits, this show is GREAT, especially for those who couldn't swallow jar jar abrams abominations. It's the serie that fans of TNG/DS9/VOY have been waiting for. it has got pretty much everything, soul included, with a new twist, minus the universe and lore. Way better than the STD with the lore and universe, but lacking the soul of Trek. Orville has the soul of Trek in spades. It's not really surprising considering STD has none of the old Trek actors/directors on board, guess where they went? That's right, on The Orville behind the scenes. WATCH IT!
