Sword of the Necromancer7
Feb 19, 2021
Not a bad game at all but needs more content. Story is great though and has stellar voice acting in English ( a little bit worse in Japanese, but still good). Hades is a better game (also almost double the price) but requires you to repeat a lot to get the full story, Necromancer is better for short plays, and it's more to the point too. The gameplay is way deeper that what it seems at first glance, and the small inventory that everyone complains about is not a problem for me, in fact it made me think a lot on what to use

Super Hyperactive Ninja7

A quite good game, despite its flaws and lack of production values. Graphics are very simple and reused a lot throughout the game (especially backgrounds and enemies). Music is cool (chiptune-style) but there is only two themes for each "world" (one when normal, and the other for hyperactive) and as you die a lot it ends being repetitive soon. The game itself is pretty well designed around its main mechanic, the hyperactive mode. While in normal, the game is your usual platformer, you can move around your character and jump. And at first that's pretty much all. When you enter hyperactive (holding down the ZR button) the character starts running really fast and only changes direction when hitting a wall. You can use this to wall jump and reach parts of the level you couldn't before. There is a charge time to enter hyperactive mode, and when you release the ZR button to stop using it, the character has to rest a while to catch his breath. If you leave hyperactive mode near an enemy that's quite a sure death, as it will come and kill you while you're resting. That's where a lot of the deaths will come, at least until you learn what's a safe space and what not. At first, I faced the game with a trial and error mind, but at the end, having learnt how the enemies work I could plan beforehand. The game can get really hard sometimes and may frustrate some players. As you advance you unlock other characters with different attributes and an equipped item. Those items can be used by any character, but the characters you unlock come each with 3 items at the start of any level. These characters can be used to revisit some levels and play them in new ways. At the end of each world there is a boss battle. To defeat the boss you usually have to use the item you just unlocked. Boss levels can be easier than regular levels, but are a change of pace that is welcome. To sum up, a good game. Maybe not the best platformer available for Switch (as there are a lot of games), but has pretty good ideas and I've been having a good time playing it. I got it on preorder for less than 5$, but it's worth its full price

A truly great game, fun to play and with a very interesting story and a unusual way to convey it. The game's mechanics are near perfect, combat is really fun and challenging, the chip setup to activate passive abilities or enhance your damage or defense is very useful (although it's quite hidden, I don't remember any prompt or tutorial about it). There are lots of things to do. Almost too much, and that's my only problem with the game and why I can't give it a 10/10 (I would give it a 9,5, but Metacritic doesn't allow "half points"). There are times you are given so much sidequests that the "main quests" are lost among them. Many sidequests are fun to do, and others help you to better understand the characters via exclusive dialogs and scenes. The problem, is that rewards are often very poor and that does not encourage you to do the sidequests. Other problem is that past a point in the game, you can't do them, until you've finished the game (where you can travel to any chapter in the game and do whatever you please to 100% it). If you have a PS4 and you don't have played this game, I don't know what are you doing.

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain7
Aug 15, 2016
It's a great game. It's not a Metal Gear Solid game. The gameplay is stellar, Venom Snake controls very smoothly, and you feel the weight of the character. I don't know how they did it, but it feels like the game is an extension of your arm. The world is very well built, roaming from post to post and messing with guards is fun, and bases like OKB Zero and that oil one in Africa are very cleverly designed. I love the gadgets you can get from R&D and the crazy stuff you can do with them. But - It lacks crazy boss battles. That's what made a MGS. This game has only 3 (or 4 if you count Man on Fire) proper boss battles, and that is lacking. No, Skulls are not boss battles (except maybe the ones in Metallic Archaea mission). - The story is very disappointing - Lack of codec - Mother base could feel more "alive", like what was promised - There's no proper conclusion for some of the story arcs. Even then, I interpret Chapter 2 as an epilogue and not a true chapter. The real story of the game ends in Chapter 1 and it's ok by their own merits. To sum up, this games goes the way from Peace Walker and expands it, but removing even more classic Metal Gear Solid elements, and that's unforgivable. Even so, it's a fun game and it has lots of little details.

Very lackluster and terribly dissapointing. It's the first game I refund on Steam, and because of that it's the first game ever I write a review for in Metacritic. My experiences with this game are as follow: - Get on my first planet, looks way worse that what you could see in the trailers, but as it's a random thing maybe I wasn't lucky. - Have to go to my wrecked spaceship, it tells me (after I come to understand the HORRIBLE UI) I need some materials to repair the motor and other thing. - Fine, let's search materials (iron and I don't know what more). Oh, cool, I have a jetpack. Oh **** I fell from 2 meters and got damage. Ok, I won't use the jetpack, because on top of that it's slow as balls. - Walking speed is atrocious, sprint is limited but you have a good amount so I wonder why it's limited in the first place. Seriously, you can sprint longer than you can use the jetpack. - Start mining rocks, laser overheats, ok. **** decision by the way. - I mine ONE (1) rock and robot police starts running behind me and shooting (WTF). Total amount played: 5 minutes. I run and hide from them. - I find some animal, obviously made from stitching together some random parts. It's so obvious it hurts. - Start telling me my suit against radiation or toxicity or something is beginning to wore out. I'm no more than 10 minutes into this. - Have I said UI is horrible? - Got an alien word. - More sentinels, I'm literally doing nothing. To sum up, many MANY things to take into account. Menus are very VERY poorly designed from a usability point of view. Inventory is a mess. The procedural nature of this game makes that your first minutes playing this can be a hellish nightmare. The "no fun robot police" is the worst decision ever made in a game that tries to reward you for exploration. I have played no more than an hour, and it was a very boring hour. Also, it's very badly optimized. I have a good setup and I had to lower resolution and disable antialiasing so I could move the camera without slowdowns. I give it 4 points because there's a good idea buried somwhere in, but as if it's now this is not an enjoyable experience. If you bought this, don't try to justify your purchase and force you to like this thing. The fooled you, the same as they fooled me with false advertising and hype marketing. Lucky I could refund the game, now I'm going to use that money (60 bucks, way too expensive for what it is) for other games I'll (I hope) enjoy more.
