Below average experience. The story is ok, but the gameplay is repetitive and redundant to the point it gives you a toothache. Endless fetch quests, constant running around the empty map, wonky shooting AND heavy reliance on boring craft mechanics makes for an uninspiring, mediocre experience.
Hand-drawn animation is 10/10, simply gorgeous! But the butchered cropped down port is 0/10, the input timing is atrocious and random, and the control responsiveness is clunky at best. You are better off watching a video on YouTube or finding a free port/emulator off the net.
Never played the original game but metacritic won't allow me to remove the rating made by accident! I'm sure it's a great game though, the remakes are stellar
Silent Hill: The Short Life is Strange AKA "the new direction of the franchise". If this is where it's going, I'm not having it - and believe me, neither will the "modern audience" of teens and tweens, at whom this game is obviously aimed. Simply because the story is linear and uninspiring, it screams "social campaign of suicide awareness" at you, everything is delivered point-blank with no subtlety whatsoever. Gameplay and technical aspects are simply horrible, this is the most poorly optimised game I have played on PS5 - and it's an exclusive specifically FOR this platform, lmao. Frame drops, stutters, freezes, **** sound with no scene of sound/depth, you name it... The characters are as uninteresting and uninspiring as the rest of the game, they are just the carriers for the "bullying and suicide bad" social campaign and have no personality outside of it. It's just lazy and tacky, disgusting fr. I've played better free in-browser horror games in the 2000s, and that's saying something.
