The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing9

A great Action RPG. This game borrowed fairly heavily from the torchlight series in terms of game mechanics, and thats ok. In fact, I think they did it better then the original, and the story all the way through was fairly interesting. The game is about 20 hours long to crawl all the side quest. The polish seems great. There were only a couple bad voice actors--most of it was good, and the dialog was witty and funny in the midst of a bunch of hack and slash awesome adventuring. I hear the multiplayer is a bit buggy, but I didn't do any of that. Single player was rock solid, with one exception where the final boss was able to attack me during his epic cut scene. This was no biggie, as I had plenty of cash to just respawn in place. Perhaps my only complaint with this game is that I had absolutely TONS of gold the whole way through. There were prices for things, and it really didn't matter what they were because I could never spend all my money because sitting there and buying everything from the random item shop is boring.

Monaco: What's Yours Is Mine9

Run around, grab loot, and finish the level as quick as possible. It's not quite a stealth game, because you invariably end up getting spotted. It's pretty easy to do something accidentally that helps your buddy on the other side of the map, which is always a rewarding feeling. Until they trip an alarm, and all hell breaks loose. That's probably the best part of the game though. This game is a pure gem, though you will want a couple buddies to play with to truly get the best value out of it.

A good open world game, probably the best I've played since the Sabateur. The story was good, though it took me about 1/2 way through the game to really start getting into it. As others have said, the melee combat is great, though it gets a bit repetitive by the end of the game. It's quite gory, which was fun at the beginning, and then started to get a bit gratuitous towards the end. I didn't particularly think the game was too short. There is some additional DLC, but I have not gotten any of it, and don't particularly plan on getting any of it. I have a fairly high end machine, and was unable to play this with all the graphics options maxed out.

Shoot, slice, run, slide, tumble and wall jump your opponents in 2d mayhem. This is not the average style of game that I play--I'm normally not into twitch style games. Maybe this has been done better elsewhere, but since I'm a bit out of genre on this, it seems really well done to me. The fast reload seems awesome, particularly when you do it right in the middle of a fight. It's pretty awesome (in that disappointing kind of way) when you fail to do a fast reload too. The music is pretty lousy, but you do listen to your own music in most games anyways right? Every now and then the graphics or sound effects seem to glitch out, but given the short attention span required for a match restarting isn't a big deal. It also seems to fix itself if you just hang out for a bit. The learning curve seems a bit high to me--there are not really great tutorials in the game, as you are basically educated over a series of load screens between matches. There are 6 characters in the standard purchase and 8 if you bought the deluxe pack on steam. One of the extra characters on the deluxe pack is one of my favorites. One of the default characters seems to be the best (the Arnold ripoff character) however so you are not really at a disadvantage w/o the extra characters. I think there are 4 maps, all of which are well done. That said, I am left wanting for more quality maps to extend the value of the game. The game looks like it will be supported by a pay store, though I find it hard to believe that this will be a long lasting game. There are 10-20 games currently, and I don't really see that swelling to some huge number. If you're into this genre (or hey, maybe you're like me and you're looking for something with just a bit more action than usual) I'd pick this one up while there are still players on it.

I am not going to give this game one of those bottom out 0/1 reviews, because honestly it is better then that. The always on DRM is... annoying. I'd live with it, though honestly its only going to get better because people stop playing due to disappointment in the game. Beyond that, there are some major not-fun-factors of the game. I have to say, the first 12 hours or so on normal difficulty are fun. The second 12 hours on the next difficulty are providing the challenge I was looking for. Then after that the game stops being fun. I'm going to give blizzard a couple weeks to fix the fun factor. If you want to say a $20 game gets 40 hours of gameplay out of replaying the same missions over and over, but on harder difficulties thats one thing. If you want to say a AAA title gets 40 hours of gameplay out of 12 hours of game that you play over and over again... well that's a bit disappointing.
