Parasite is the most overrated Oscar winner of all time and apparently nobody is allowed to discuss the flaws, plot holes, and very problematic subtext without being harassed. I am Asian. I will discuss this more later. Least deserving BP winner ever.
Best movie of 2019. More detailed review coming soon. By far, Tarantino's best film. I think this may be my favorite Leo film. Cliff Booth and Brandy ftw
This was the best film of 2018. Christian Bale was robbed at the Oscars. The ensemble was robbed at SAG. Brilliant, necessary, and important film. It does have way more depth than the majority of the films that were nominated
I am baffled by half of the critical/audience reaction because this is exactly the ending, I predicted. This epic franchise deserves a better score and I hope it receives Oscar nominations. I do not understand the hate given that the plot elements perfectly correlate what was indicated in the previous two films as well as the cast making it clear where it was ending in various interviews. Read between the lines. I wasn't surprised by anything in the film and the themes of redemption are powerful. Long live BB8. We do get to see more character screen time for the trio.
I have mixed feelings about the film. I enjoyed it far more, after the first viewing. After reading some of the excessive sjw/supremacist/racist pandering from the director, writer...I became more critical about certain inflammatory events of the film. I am a woman of color. I don't tolerate racism or profiling or bigotry or negative stereotypes of any kind. I am not a white woman. However, I found the commentary/rhetoric espoused by the people behind this film to be incredibly disturbing, offensive, and extremist in nature that makes a beautifully-looking tragic art film into something that can be badly weaponized if perceived a certain way. As for positives: Great suspense, great music, and great performances. Daniel K. is an underrated, gifted actor. Jodie Turner Smith gives a remarkable film debut performance and I am surprised she is not receiving award nominations left & right.
This film is not even half as good as Vice or The Report or Richard Jewell. The people in this film are depicted as one-dimensional caricatures and stereotypes. I do not support Fox News but the way they are being generalized and profiled is laughable & demeaning. The film is a bit too on the nose and doesn't have much depth. There are some comedic aspects and Charlize, Nicole give interesting performances but the film overall isn't Oscar-worthy.
Richard Jewell is a brilliant and bold film that explores government & media corruption in how a witch hunt plays out. Richard Jewell was the victim here, not the female reporter who wrote multiple hit pieces against **** the AJC publication. It is sad that the narrative is being flipped around against the film due to a minor use of creative license which is being vilified. This woman did have a prior romantic entanglement with a cop on the case, so the film did not reach much when it came to that plot point as to how she leaked the info to the press. This is a gripping and important movie. It is probably Eastwood's best movie in the past ten years. Paul Walter Hauser is a revelation. Sam Rockwell gives a powerful performance as his indignant lawyer and he deserves an Oscar nomination. Kathy Bates is heartbreaking as his traumatized mother. Richard Jewell is the victim and the film pays tribute to injustice. It doesn't matter if you are left wing or right wing. I hope the film is vindicated during awards season because I think some of the media injustice, manufactured overblown controversy is damaging the film.
This is a masterpiece. I will add more details...hopefully if the film gets a proper wide release. Timothee Chalamet should be a shoo-in for an Oscar nomination. The ingenious script should also be nominated. There are a lot of parallels to our current political situation
Ad Astra is James Gray's magnum opus. It was a beautiful, cerebral experience and I was riveted by Brad's understated yet strong performance. It deserves to be nominated at the Oscars and it will have its place in sci-fi history.
Metacritic needs to be aware that people associated with Jolie's team and fanbase are review bombing this film's rating to lower the score since it is the competition. This is unfair and needs to be resolved. Zombieland: Double Tap may go down as my favorite zombie film of this decade. It is hilarious, action-packed, and even has a touch of romance. Great film
