Crimson Desert6
May 19, 2026
Crimson Desert is one of the most ambitious games I’ve played in years, and for the first 20–30 hours I was convinced I was playing something special. The world is beautiful (most of the time), the sound design and music are excellent, and exploration can genuinely feel exciting. There are a lot of interesting locations to discover, the voice acting is surprisingly solid, and most quests at least try to do something different instead of feeling completely generic. Combat can also be very fun at first. Some fights feel cinematic and satisfying, and the game has moments where everything comes together and you can see the vision the developers were aiming for. Unfortunately, after about 60 hours, the game completely wore me down. The biggest problem is that the game is overloaded with systems that either aren’t explained well or don’t feel meaningful. There are so many mechanics, currencies, upgrades, side activities, companion systems, crafting systems, and progression layers that eventually it all starts to blur together. A lot of it feels unnecessary or half-developed. The game is also way too long for the amount of meaningful variety it actually has. Enemies stop becoming more difficult and instead just become damage sponges. Loot progression feels disappointing because you constantly find “rare” or hidden items that barely feel different from your starting gear. Money eventually feels pointless. The grind becomes exhausting. Some quest design choices are genuinely painful. Escort quests are torture because NPCs move at a crawl while enemies endlessly harass you. Stealth missions feel awkward and frustrating rather than tense or rewarding. Flying enemies are especially obnoxious because hitting them often involves awkward precision attacks while multiple other enemies spam projectiles at you. The game is also buggy. I experienced major lighting glitches, multiple hard crashes on PS5, weird AI behavior, and several moments where systems clearly were not working as intended. A lot of encounters can also be cheesed pretty easily, which hurts the balance and immersion even further. What frustrates me most is that there’s clearly an amazing game buried in here somewhere. The production values are high, the world is impressive, and there are moments that feel incredible. But the game desperately needed more focus, more editing, and more respect for the player’s time. Overall, I’d give it around a 6.5/10. I don’t regret playing it, but by the end I wasn’t excited to continue — I just wanted it to be over.

Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader7

I went into this with no Warhammer background. Some parts of the game were really cool and engaging, and the overall look and atmosphere were great. Sound design was solid, and systems like trading and ship combat helped the game stand out. The writing was very wordy and hard to follow if you don’t know the lore. Most of the game wasn’t voice acted, but when it was, the voice acting was way too slow, with long pauses and breathy delivery that dragged everything out. Combat got dull later on, with enemies turning into damage sponges that weren’t actually dangerous. Most items felt useless, abilities were badly balanced, and colony management was interesting but mostly extra busywork. By the end, I didn’t care much about the story and mostly just wanted it to be over. I still finished the game and enjoyed parts of it, but it has a lot of small issues.

It is a great CRPG that starts out very strong, and ultimately is just too long and it gets weaker and less fun the further you get. Also I encountered some game breaking bugs several times and had to reload which is never great. Otherwise this game does a lot really well, the story is good, the characters are solid, you have a ton of options and its definitely worth a play for fans of the genre. I took off a few points for the bugs and beyond a certain act I had no desire to play it anymore, it felt like a chore where I couldn't even bring myself to slog through to the end, which is saying a lot because at one point, even 60+ hours in, I was still LOVING it, one act in particular I found incredibly boring and annoying

In short, this is a game with a great combat system, that is dragged down by nearly every other aspect. This game has some fairly unique concepts when it comes to combat, and the combat plays smoothly and feels polished once you get used to it. The progression system is decent, you spend points to unlock abilities and they do open up some doors in combat and in some cases give you really useful abilities. The combat abilities that you can use after they "charge up" were kind of neat but were so infrequent that I pretty much forgot they were even there for the majority of the game. The combat really shines in the ability to borrow abilities from your teammates, but when you get good at it the game becomes super easy. As far as equipment and crafting, its all very basic and not interesting (you get items that are literally called like "A material" and "B material"). The customization options for appearance all looked terrible. The music and art style are both decent, seems like they were both inspired by the Persona series. All of the above is not nearly enough to get through the DULL dialogue and Cut scenes. The game starts out throwing way too many one-note boring characters at you that its hard to keep track of whose who, or to find the will to care, and by the time I do have them all sorted out, I find myself not caring about any of them and their (mostly) lifeless dialog By the end I was skipping most of the cutscenes to just get the game over with, I didn't care anymore and the dialogue was too painfully boring to slog through any further. The different "zones" were all very linear and boring also. The cherry on top is that the side quests are among the worst I've ever seen.

This is the best entry in the Tales series since Symphonia. The combat is fantastic, the story has some really interesting concepts and the game feels very polished and well balanced. It loses a couple of points because the dialog is repetitive, most of it feels like it was written for children (I don't need the same thing explained to me 15 different ways), and the game overstays its welcome towards the end - the hardest enemies are just damage sponges so it got old for me by the end. But overall I loved this game, if you like JRPG's or any of the other Tales game this is a must have..

I can't believe this game doesn't have a built in system for browsing games. Overall it's pretty neat but a huge part of making games is sharing them, don't make me go hunting for game codes outside the game. Without this key feature I can't recommend it. I was a big fan of Mario maker and was expecting to be able to tag/comment/like games, view top games etc. because that is an extremely basic thing that a game like this will not survive without. i guess its my fault for not reading enough ahead of time, but not having this feature in a game like this is inexcusable in 2021, it is such a "duh" thing that its quite shocking how awful the sharing is in this game.

The story in this game is great, and it isn't afraid to take chances and be creative which is what makes this game shine. Without spoiling anything: after the first playthrough I would give this game a 7, but after the second playthrough I think it deserves an 8. The combat is solid, but easy/basic. Many of the spells I never even looked at, I stuck with the same two the whole game. Also I ended the game with a ton of combat items I never had to use and forgot they existed. There are a lot of things holding this game back from a higher score: -The side quests are very boring and very pointless -The side activities were also very boring and very pointless (fishing/farming? why? it was not executed well and did not add anything to the game). -On normal the game is extremely easy, on hard the game is easy and boring because it is still easy but it takes 4 times as long to kill anything -There is a TON of boring backtracking The story, music and characters in this game stand out as exceptional. The combat and graphics are mediocre, everything else was pretty bad.

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order7

Overall this is a solid game where they tried to make a Star Wars "souls like". The audio/visuals are great and the game controls well and is fun to play. There are some major flaws holding it back: 1. The collectibles are pointless and everywhere. I don't care about ponchos or ship color. None of that stuff mattered and felt like a waste of time. 2. The game is too easy on regular difficulty to have the same "risk/reward" feeling of a souls game. I never once lost my progress and there is a checkpoint around EVERY corner making the shortcuts useless. 3. The wall running/swinging and sliding are fun at first but overused and felt tedious at times. There was no challenge there it felt like filler after a while. 4. A couple of the puzzles are obnoxiously unclear what to do. I ended up looking them up and thinking to myself "I NEVER would have known that is what I was supposed to do!" Overall its pretty good, but I feel like a lot of the game was just extra filler and it could have been so much more.

As a big fan of JRPG's and Action RPGs of all kinds, I enjoyed this game well enough, if I could go back I wouldn't pay full price for it though. As I understand it is a faithful recreation of the original (except for the lack of multi-player), so if that is what you are looking for you will probably enjoy it more than I did. Having NOT played the original I feel like the story and dialog just haven't aged well and I felt no attachment based on nostalgia. I didn't care about any of the characters or story whatsoever and found myself rolling my eyes at how some big things happened very abruptly with little explanation, and how convenient everything was, it was overly generic and felt kind of lazy. If you are going to remake a game tit for tat with better graphics I fail to see the point, I'd rather it be modernized and made better, what I see here there is a TON of room for improvement especially with the story and dialog, and the graphical upgrade, like many have said, is mediocre at best. The art style reminded me of a last generation game, nothing really wowed me there. The dancing copy/pasta merchants and NPCs with generic dialog really annoyed me, ruined the mood and dragged my immersion level down quite a bit. The main saving grace is the unique progression system and fun (although basic and easy) combat. I liked that I had to choose my team up front and learn about them as I go and decide which skills each member would have, if I enjoyed the story more I would probably go back and play the other characters but I did not.

It is a VERY cool game and art development tool. However messing around in the editor is the most fun I've had with this game and having to use the motion controls on the dual shock just makes me wish it was on PC (or at least have mouse/keyboard support). Currently, the games available are all pretty mediocre, even the top rated ones. At best I think "Wow this person is very talented and put a lot of hard work into it." then I play it for 2 minutes and quit because of either clunky controls or its just a very short game or demo. Some of them obviously have had a lot of long hours from some talented people, but even the best games have pretty bad platforming, horrible hit detection, annoying camera controls etc. Making something like Art's Dream in the tool obviously will take hundreds if not thousands of hours, and even that was about 2 hours long and a lot of the platforming was pretty meh.
