Space combat is fun for 10 minutes or so though, but the rest, such as on foot combat, or character animations are just hilariously mediocre. Still, game is free (ish), so give it a go, just don't expect a Mass Effect sort of space opera. 5 out of 10
Pro. -massive, full scale galaxies to explore. -can be absolutely gorgeous at times. -sound design and in game music is of a very high standard. -Devoleper Hello Games has stated this game won't ever get paid dlc, instead it will support game with regular patches. This is the reason why i won't list the somewhat hefty purchase price as a con. -game has massive potential to evolve over time into something truly special and unique. -Awesome retro scifi spaceship designs. Cons. -game does crash a bit. -A.I is very basic, to put it nicely. -while the U.I looks nice, it is a chore to use. -way too much time is spend in the inventory screen, sometimes during combat, like charging shields in a dogfight for example. It just kills the flow of the game imo. Also, not enough space in this inventory, making it a micro management nightmare. -The robotic computer voice cannot be turned off. -very basic, text based story telling in which the static characters you meet are very forgettable. -The resource collecting part of the game is just not fun. -planet and space combat feels very basic. -puzzles repeat after a while.
Runs like complete dog slob on my 970 system. Never thought i would be this dissapointed with Remedy to be honest. Also, Microsoft charges more for the pc version?? Heck, they give it away for free on pc if you get the Xbox version. Jeez, they dont even try and hide it anymore. 2 out of 10, because pretty graphics. Avoid.
Worst racer this decade hands down. Everything in this game is a complete embarrassment. The absolute horrid "acting" in the fmv scenes, to the craphouse driving model that makes the Titanic feel like a go cart. It looks nice at first, but since it is always dark, rainy with next to no traffic on the streets it becomes dull pretty quick. A.I is non existant and is just rubberbanding, slam into everything possible sort of horsesht, and the turd has to be always online to function, even though there is absolutely no reason for it to be. To best describe with the following words. abhorrent abominable appalling awful cruel detestable disagreeable disgusting dreadful eerie execrable fearful frightful ghastly grim grisly gross gruesome heinous hideous loathsome lousy lurid mean nasty obnoxious offensive repellent revolting scandalous shameful shocking terrible ungodly and unholy. Game is not worth even 5 bucks. Avoid at all cost. A solid 1 out of 10
Purchased the game yesterday and was keen to start playing since i am both a SW fan and a fan of the old battlefront games. When i started playing i was immediately blown away by the presentation. The graphics, and animations, are by far the best i have yet seen in a game, and the sound design is pure SW heaven. However, after only 2 hours i started to get bored with the very limited content on offer out of the box. For a $99 game (aussie prices) i expected a bit more meat on the bones. Alas, there wasnt so i decided to see if any dlc maps etc were on the playstation store. Well, there is a season pass you can get for $75,95. Now, when i read that i was a bit like Doc in return to the future when he was screaming "88 miles an hour". Im still in shock the next morning. There is just no way i will support this circus, and EA has truly lost a customer here. Good thing that in Aus i can get a full refund within 7 days, so i will certainly be using that option later today. 76 bucks? My goodness.......
Just finished the game. Gameplay and story are ok. In fact, it is kinda fun to walk down memory lane with it's retro/ old Skool gameplay and over the top, 80's style action b film story. Gameplay is completely turn based, and works well and provides a nice, chess like challange. Only problem with the actual gameplay for me was the lack of any in game minimap. Otherwise, no complains there. Technically however, it is a complete turkey on ps4. There seems to be some sort of memory leak which will make the game crawl after playing for 30+ minutes, and since the game looks like a late ps2 game this is kinda embarrassing. Over the duration of game (70 plus hours) the game also crashed multiple times. Navigating the menu in game can also become quite laggy, and there is an annoying lag between pressing the thumb stick to move your character, and the character actually moving on screen. Good thing is there seems to be a patch in the works. Having said that, the game can be very fun at times, but because of the technical short comings I rate this game 4/10.
Bought this game on launch and played 81 minutes. Those 81 minutes were filled with crashes, freezes, bugs and stutters and very little enjoyable gameplay. I did enjoy the original, so much in fact that i was willing to ignore this blatant rip off attitude and spend money again on a more polished, bug free version. Well, they didnt do anything but put a few flame decals on a car, fcked around with the contrast settings from what i could see. No bugs were fixed but added instead (no kidding, this game is a bugfest, play the original if you want to play this thing). Graphics seem to be the same. and no patch whatsoever, and there probably never will be one. Unplayable, Stay away. On a more positive note, got a Steam refund :)
Last weekend was my big moment where i traded in my beloved ps3 with a boatload of games for the ps4. It came bundled with 2 games, The Last of Us and Destiny. Having played Last of Us to death on ps3 i deceided to dive straight in and start playing "Destiny". Now, let me tell you the good stuff first, since there is unfortunetly so little of it. As i was used to ps3 graphics and never played a ps4 before, this game visual presentation was earth **** . Everything is absolutely gorgeous in this game. Truly "next gen". The textures used are insanely detailed, with beautiful lighting effects. Everything just is what you always hoped gaming would be one day since you first played that humble little Nintendo in 1985. and everything is running silky smooth with no fps slowdowns once. Amazing indeed. Next Gunplay. Absolutely nailed it. Best gunplay i have had since, well, ever on any Playstation. That combined with the new ps4 controller and you have gameplay as smooth as butter. I really understand now why some Xbox only gamers have had so much love for Halo. Shooting and aiming guns is very satisfying and well above the standard. The last good point i would like to point out is the amazing Hollywood blockbuster style soundtrack. You just have to hear it. And that is about all the positive stuff i can tell you about this game. The negative list is quite a bit longer s i am sorry to say. The story is pure rubbish. Pure and utter crap, **** from the bottom of the cheapest cliche barrel they could find. Let me give you an example here: the good guys are "The Light", and the bad guys "The Darkness". Yeah, no kidding. "The Darkness" is then sub divided in even more cliche sub factions such as "the Hive", "The Fallen" etc. This in itself would not be such a problem if there was actually a story to follow, but there isn't. To actually learn something about these factions, or anything for that matter, you will have to pause the game and head to a website and read the lore there. Serious, that is what you have to do. hardly any ingame story. And since i simply refused to get my story from a website out of priciple, all i was left with was basically a polished up 2014 version of space invaders. What little story there is ingame however is the worst of the worst. It explains nothing. You where dead, but was revived somhow after a few hundred years, yet no one bothers to explain it to me how or why. Later on in the game a character pops up and starts talking to me as if we know each other, but i never have seen her in my game once. Says she is too busy to explain or some crap like that and vanished. lol WTF?? She did give a gun when i "finished" the game though, which was nice i guess. And it goes on and on. The story simply makes no sense and is a huge let down. I actually think they would have been better off just cutting the story alltogether and make this a straight up hardcore shooter. Then there is the voice acting. And boy, is it bad. Bungie somehow managed to grab everyones favorite member of the Lannister family, Tyrion, aka Peter Dinkelage. And i am sorry to say, he blew it, and he blew it big time. I dont know if this is because of a lack of directing, or because he simply **** as a voice actor. But he is so bad i wished he would **** allready. He plays this "ghost" which looks a bit like "Wheatley" from Portal 2. And he must surely be one of the most annoying game characters ever made by man. Play it, and you will find out because i just cannot bring myself to be so critical of the excelent Tyrion. Lets just say Peter Dinkelage is no Ashley Johnson / Troy Baker when it comes to voice over work. Mission design is pathetic. Simplel as that. There are literally 2 "quests" in this game. Kill wave after wave, also known as point defense, horde mode etc. and there is kill the boss, which is pure bullet sponge tank and spank crap. That is all there is too it. No escort, no chases no nothing. It is embarassing to be honest. Loot is hardly dropped by mobs make it even more boring than it already is, so you need to grind reps to get gear. There are a few daily "quests" to help you along though to obtain it a little faster. Fun quests such as KILL 10.000 guardians, no kidding. Make no mistake, this is grinding original everquest style. It was after i read that quest btw that i ejected the game and traded it in for something else. TLTR; this game is a complete outhouse of a mess. Stay away
This "game" is a little hard to review since it is not really a game in the traditional sense. It's focus lies in the "narrative"with a thin veneer of game play which consists mostly out of your run of the mill QTE's (quick time events) during cut scenes and some basic, albeit unrefined and clunky, click and point ish exploration elements. you like it, or you hate it simple as that. (i think it takes away from my gaming experience, but i can see how some find it ads to the experience.) As such, i will mostly focus my review on that, the narrative. Simply put, it is bad. Very bad even. Plot holes are so big you can fit a small moon in and the cliche ridden, horrendous 2 dimensional Mary Sue characters and a "plot twist" so stupid it insults any logical thinking human being are just a few of the problems you will encounter. It tries hard to be Se7en, but look a little past the impressive soundtrack and graphics, and what you are left with is a parody on the level of The Naked Gun. The "Acting" is downright comedy at times, and you kinda feel bad because sometimes you end up laughing at a scene which was supposed to be deep and emotionally involving, but because of the complete amateurish incompetence of the writing it end up being hilarious. After having read some of the praising "reviews" on this site i cant help but feel a little ashamed of being a gamer. You see, in my opinion, the writer is a bit like a cheat. Had this indeed been a movie script, it would have been mocked at every film festival and ripped apart by every movie critic in existence, yet in the gaming world this is rated as "superb writing", "setting new standards" etc by the critics. This effectively implies gaming is the special Olympics when it comes to telling stories. Where you can get away as an able-bodied mediocre athlete, winning gold against people with disabilities and get a slap on the shoulder for doing so. (note: nothing wrong with the Special Olympics btw, nothing but respect for the athletes competing there) I find that insulting to be honest. I give it 3/10. Would give it a solid zero, but the soundtrack and graphics design are beautiful and i tip my hat and at least want to give points to the people who created that. Shame their work is thrown into this pretentious and contrived mess.
Played this game for a good 4 hours now and i am left with this "meh" feeling. Probably not even going to finish it to be honest. Let me first say that the gameplay is decent for the most part and it has some impressive motion capturing going for it. The graphics and soundtrack are above market standards as well. And that is the best i can say about this game unfortunately. The "story", if you can even call it that, is a complete dud written by what must be a pretentious high school drop out with a pen. Actually, it is almost insulting the way logic is challenged over and over. For example, Lara is cold, shivering etc, yet i cannot pick up a coat from one of the 30 guys i just murdered? It is full with crap like this, and it will get annoying fast. Heck, the game even starts this stupid by completely impaling Lara trough the gut with a rusty stake-like object, yet she is completely fine for the rest of the game??. And that is just one of the ridiculous injuries she sustained, more, even absurder injuries follow later. The supporting cast is completely forgettable and as two dimensional as rice paper. And then there is "Lara" (or Laura to some cast members who are supposedly her friends, yet cannot pronounce her name right). Lara is as Mary Sue as they come in. A pure cliche turd with a nice set of jugs and a good looking piece of ass, but not much else. Her voice actor is annoying to the point where you just want to turn the voice down altogether after an hour. OOOooh's and AAAaahh's aplenty, but not the kind you would expect from a person in painful survival mode, but rather from a person doing the voice overs in a pornographic film. They also tried to give Lara some humane personalty traits this time around, but it fails so miserably it enters comedy territory. For example, the first guy she shoots causes her to drop to her knees and yell something like "whyyyyyyy!!!!!" but it is done in such a amateur way you cannot help but laugh at this "emotional" performance. Actually, i am not even going to continue this review, it is simply bad. It has some good gameplay here and there (and some horrendous too, quick time events for the lose) so some fun can be had, but for me, a solid 4/10
The last of us is something very special delivered in videogame form that has to be experienced, no matter what. The moment you start the game you know why. I have played quite a few games in my 35 years of existence, and this one is by far the best experience i have had in games. Everything in game just screams seriously high production values. The animation, the voice actors, storyline, everything is just way beyond and above of what one would expect ****. Lets take the voice actors for example. Joel, voiced by Troy Baker, and Ellie, voiced by Ashley Johnson are simply amazing. They take their trade very serious, and you can hear it in every line they speak. The chemistry between the two is also something you rarely see in games. The way they grow and bond with each other is simply beautiful. Also, the "infected" are done in way you rarely, if at all hear in games. They don't go with the stereotypical zombie cow moans, but instead sound like real sick people in complete pain and agony. All this doesn't mean nothing of course if the rest of the game doesn't deliver, and rest assured, it does. The animations in this game are so lifelike it is crazy. Little things such as a little nod when Joel agrees with something, or when Ellie looks away in a dreamlike trance (the world as we know it is just an abstract idea to her, what little she knows comes from books, stories etc) when talking about how things were before the world went to crap really ad up. Graphics are outstanding, and probably the finest you see on the PS3, but then again this beast **** from Naughty Dog, so it was to be expected. Everything, from the ruined cities, to the characters is done in amazing, lifelike detail. Story is done very well. It is a little cliche at times, but despite that it is a story well worth experiencing. and last, but not least, game play. Game play is a delight in this game. Bullets feel like they really hit a enemy. It has this heavy feel to it when they find their target. Another small detail in the gunplay is that when you go out of bullets against bandits or soldiers and continue to pull the trigger your gun makes this empty clicking sound. Nothing special about that, but the enemy hears this too. I was stunned to see a guy behind cover slightly rise from behind cover and surveying the situation and then said to another guy "he's out, lets f him up". That was crazy realistic and even though my behind was served to me on a silver platter, i could not help myself smiling. Only small problem in my opinion is that some guys can take a few too many bullets and that can distract from the illusion.Small problem mind you, but a problem nonetheless. Hand to hand and melee is also something not for those with a weak heart. It feels brutal and animalistic. Really the primal him or me feeling. And when Ellie comments after a fight with something like "geez Joel, what the F?" you wonder exactly who the monster was in this fight. So yea, this game is most certainly worth playing, even if you don't own a PS3. Borrow it from a friend or something, but make sure you experience it. There is nothing out there quite like it. It makes you smile, it makes you cry, it makes you despair and it makes you hope. 10/10
