Uzumaki is a triumph in horror that’s difficult to describe. as someone who has never read the book, (Made By Junji Itō) whilst intrigued of its concept by the same name, the show does an amazing job at encapsulating the feeling of dread, & uneasiness that the book mastered, and so far, there’s only one episode that’s aired prior to me making this review. I don’t have any negative criticism for this show, because what the book already did successfully, the format of being a show sets the books concepts to another level. everything stays true to its source material in it’s animation, the pacing, & the art direction, with the only exception being the music, (Made By Colin Stetson) which heightens its quality even more then it needs to be. Important reminder, this show is not for everybody, nor the books. there is a huge emphasis on body horror, and neither the show or the book shy away from how brazenly violent/vulgar it can be with its visuals. if you’re not into that, Best leave it alone, but if you are, that’s great. I won’t go into detail for the sake of spoiling, but whatever expectation that you have on what a horror flick can be, it won’t matter. If you’re going in blind with no knowledge about the books, I mean this in the best way possible. you won’t know what’s about to hit you and how hard it’s gonna hit. so be ready for the worst horrific outcome you can think of, but in truth it’s probably not gonna be enough to keep you from being scared.
