Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds9
Sep 30, 2025
This game is great, particularly if you're a Sonic fan, and even if you're just a kart racing fan. I happen to be both, and I find this game immensely satisfying. Firstly, and most importantly, it's simply an excellent kart racing game that feels great to play. Secondly, it delivers a ton of fan service for Sonic aficionados. It's awesome. I was initially hesitant when the game was first announced, due to the extremely lackluster state of Team Sonic Racing, which released years ago at this point. But after spending close to 20 hours across the Open Network Test, the demo, and the full game, I can safely say this game is great. It looks good and it plays even better.

This game is brilliant, arcade-y, and addicting. But more impressively it is expertly crafted by an extraordinarily competent developer. Competent enough to make a game, which is obviously inspired by Japanese games from 20+ years prior, that actually feels like the genuine article. It almost feels like a historical forgery. If you told me this game was a remake of a PlayStation game from 2000 or that it had originally been on the PSP I might've believed you.

Great! Super Mario Party (the prior game on Switch) was such a letdown, but this game makes up for it. It's superb. I couldn't ask for much more from a Mario Party game.

Mario Kart World9

This is the biggest Mario Kart ever. The visuals are fantastic and the new jumping and wall-riding mechanics are great additions. Additionally, the open world is a great change of pace from the rest of the game. It's superb!

I enjoyed this game. I started my playthrough as nothing more than a joke; however, I ended up having lots of fun. The game is charming and it requires you to get creative with your different abilities/costumes to reach new collectibles. There are parts of the game that feel like you're breaking it with it's mechanics, but I believe that's by design. It's a very different style of game with a really relaxed pace, it's not a race to the finish line like a Mario platformer, but there is still plenty of fun to be had. The biggest negative the game suffers from is just being different and expecting players to understand/tolerate learning how to play something that is unconventional.
