I find this standout game to be much better than Final Fantasy Tactics. I am a diehard fan of tactical rpgs and I really like how you can load out with almost a dozen characters to fight all at once with another dozen. This is what battle is all about, particularly on the maps without elevation. The music is wonderfully rendered on the Sony PSP's superior sound and the menu is completely accessible via the Select button.
You may have noticed the words "Enemy phase" in some screenshots of this game. That is because there is no queue to be found, just your turn and the enemy's turn.
No online but the game does have upgraded graphics, a classic mode, and a new mode to play. These upgrades make it a remake, not a port of the classic loved game Bomberman Nes.
This game is graphically superior to anything else on 3DS and the music is superior to previous FE games. But the gameplay is the same as before. I wanted to see a queue system in a Fire Emblem game instead of the player and enemy rotations, but I wasn't given that option. Fire Emblem has always been afraid to innovate itself (not the genre - itself) and as usual I am rewarded for being a chicken by keeping my lower level units back beyond harm. I was at least given a casual option to play the game which means you can lose units and they won't disappear forever in the casual mode. There is also a male/female option for choice of main character.
I actually enjoyed the multiple storylines this game has to offer, and I'm not usually one to do that. The storylines differ based on the difficulty curve - if your units get killed, you'll get a better outcome next level in a very early stage to help you along. This seems to be a very early stage only. I don't think losing the units again would prove worth it. Since I have discussed this gameplay mechanic and not spoiled anything I haven't included spoilers in my review. I wouldn't buy this trpg game and Hoshigami because unlike Hoshigami this trpg game Rewards you for moving your units.
The game is exactly what I was looking for in terms of the type and style of gameplay - but it is a port. It is Not a DS-style remake. Buy this game because it's worth it but expect the PS1 experience exactly and be sure to avoid it if you played Gungnir. Gungnir is the opposite of this game because this game Punishes you for moving your units.
Beware the Flowsand Lord! 30-40 battles in you face a rare boss fight. And this one will keep you from continuing the game it's so hard unless, you play the clan trials. So don't overlook the clan trials. Apart from that the music is good if a little cheery, the graphics are excellently vibrant, the game is a lot more challenging, and deep, than War of the Lions.
