Hugo 10

A nicely written story, visually pleasing with good acting. Somewhat predictable but I wasn't much in the mood for a challenge, just sit back and enjoy the costumes, sets, colors, dialogue. Some of the characters were caricatures (the adults) and they were a bit over the top and light on dialogue but enough to propel the story forward. This will be a classic. Enjoy it with the family.

Water for Elephants1
May 12, 2011
Here is something not new. The elephants were abused in training so they would know how to act abused. Charming.

Flashdance1
Mar 4, 2011
I saw this on TV many years after it came out in the....80's? Not good at all. All it did was promote ripped shirts and big hair and wild dancing everyone did for a good laugh.
Mar 4, 2011
A Beautiful Mind8
Mar 4, 2011
A very good movie but can be a little to heavy. Slow paced but worth watching.
Mar 4, 2011
Unbreakable8
Mar 4, 2011
Although it was not as good as The Sixth Sense it was still a good movie worthy of me watching it a few times. The twist was very good.
Mar 4, 2011
Toy Story10
Mar 4, 2011
Excellent family movie. Original story and great animation.
Mar 4, 2011
The Sixth Sense10
Mar 4, 2011
One of the best movie twists ever. Unfortunately my sister spoiled it for me and told me before I ever saw it and really, that IS the movie. Done very well and great acting.
Mar 4, 2011
The Graduate7
Mar 4, 2011
It was a definitive movie for the times but now painful to watch. The end is ridiculous.
Mar 4, 2011
The Godfather: Part II4
Mar 4, 2011
I saw it on TV so it was not as violent. They should have never made II and III but they didn't know when to leave well enough alone and I am sure Al Pacino thought he was that good that the story didn't matter. And he wasn't very good in this one. I never bothered to watch III.
Mar 4, 2011
The Godfather8
Mar 4, 2011
I saw it on TV so it was a lot less violent. It is the definitive mafia movie, even if they were never allowed to say the word. The mafia would not have liked it.
Mar 4, 2011
The Fugitive7
Mar 4, 2011
The film has a flimsy story. Tommy Lee Jones was great but really, who cares as he had to act his way through a TV show.
Mar 4, 2011
The Color Purple9
Mar 4, 2011
Very good but depressing. All of the acting and directing was done very well. And yet, I don't care to ever sit through it again.
Mar 4, 2011
Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace3
Mar 4, 2011
I was extremely disappointed. There was too much CGI and not enough story. Although the series was always conceived to have a trilogy prior to the trilogy, you would think it was written, acted and directed just to make some more money.
Mar 4, 2011
Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi7
Mar 4, 2011
Not my favorite of the original 3 but quite necessary to wrap everything up. I and just about everyone else hated the little bears. What a cheesy attempt at merchandising.
Mar 4, 2011
Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back8
Mar 4, 2011
Very good. I really liked the battles. The earth **** truth about who Darth Vader was was the best part of the movie.
Mar 4, 2011
Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope10
Mar 4, 2011
This was the best of the original series and all the others after those 3 were awful. I actually liked the originals before the digital remastering. At the end the theater yelled hooray and clapped. Well, way back when.
Mar 4, 2011
Star Trek: First Contact4
Mar 4, 2011
For me the movies were a great disappointment. The only thing I liked about the movie is that it was about the Borg. But, not worth watching again.
Mar 4, 2011
Saturday Night Fever7
Mar 4, 2011
It was a 10 in the 70's but now, not so much. It was the disco era and it almost couldn't miss. The dancing is very good but the story line is so-so. Coming of age and so on.
Mar 4, 2011
Raising Arizona7
Mar 4, 2011
Funny and I did laugh out loud once but overall it wasn't that great a movie. I only watched it once many years ago and I would probably watch it if friends wanted to.
Mar 4, 2011
Raiders of the Lost Ark10
Mar 4, 2011
Very good story and lots of great action. All the acting was done very well. This was the best of the series.
Mar 4, 2011
Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest8
Mar 4, 2011
Great premise where the pirates are desperate to put the treasure BACK! I really did like Johnny Depp in this movie. The rest of the cast were so-so. But again, it was the premise that won me over.
Mar 4, 2011
Zoolander0
Mar 4, 2011
Huge disappointment. Just another comedy that was not funny. I couldn't watch this again if I tried. I wish David Bowie had never been in it and perhaps he feels the same.
Mar 4, 2011
Mystic River2
Mar 4, 2011
It was on TV recently and talk about not able to hold my attention. I popped in now and then to see if I could stand it as there was nothing else on. Bad.

K-PAX4
Mar 4, 2011
I watched this whole movie, right up to the end. I was pretty sure I knew what it would be but it just dragged on so long I had to change the channel. Who cared at that point.
Mar 4, 2011
Jaws10
Mar 4, 2011
I believe this was the very first Blockbuster. The lines wrapped around the block and coining the name for big moneymaking movies. Very scary but probably better in the theater. You really need the large screen for the full scare impact.
Mar 4, 2011
Animal House10
Mar 4, 2011
I saw this when it first came out. FUNNY and now a classic. John Belushi at his very best. The entire cast was funny.
Mar 2, 2011
The X Files: I Want to Believe6
Mar 2, 2011
I was very disappointed at this attempt to answer questions for the faithful tv show viewers and satisfy those who are not. It seemed to make things less clear and more complicated. Even I was getting sick of Scully never seeing anything.
Mar 2, 2011
Charlie's Angels2
Mar 2, 2011
This is the type of movie I rent to see with my friends and family so we can make fun of it. Its so **** good.
Mar 2, 2011
Cape Fear8
Mar 2, 2011
I was scared to death and too grossed out to ever watch again. DeNiro outdoes himself as a sick and twisted vengeful pig who goes after a lawyer and his family after he is released from jail. It sounds run of the mill but isn't, to say the least. As usual, I saw this on TV so it wasn't even as violent as it could have been.
Mar 2, 2011
Cabaret10
Mar 2, 2011
Outstanding. No one can sing like Liza. Mein Heir is belted out and is my favorite song. Very funny, off color, sad and thought provoking knowing what is to come to unique everyday people in their unique everyday lives.
Mar 2, 2011
Beetlejuice10
Mar 2, 2011
Alec Baldwin, Geena Davis, Michael Keaton are all great and Winona Ryder and more are all very, very good. So original and Tim Burton was fantastic with direction.
Mar 2, 2011
Bonnie and Clyde8
Mar 2, 2011
Really violent but a good movie. I have to say I really thought the end was done well. You know, the part where they finally catch up with Bonnie and Clyde.
Mar 2, 2011
Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me8
Mar 2, 2011
Very funny and a good movie to watch with friends on a goofy night. It is the type of movie that you can watch and laugh, talk to your friends, get something to eat and not miss a beat because it is pretty much a formula spy movie with laughs throughout.
Mar 2, 2011
Apollo 139
Mar 2, 2011
Great acting, directing, dialogue. Very intense with the Apollo disaster and astronauts, interesting family problems and politics. A little slow at times but that really does not effect how good the movie is overall.
Mar 2, 2011
Ace Ventura: Pet Detective10
Mar 2, 2011
Hysterical. I especially liked the "ballerina" scenes. Jim Carrey has idiot down to a science. He is as funny as Jerry Lewis, Jackie Gleason, **** Van Dyke and many other greats.
Mar 2, 2011
30010
Mar 2, 2011
Outstanding. The acting, directing, CGI, originality (somewhat historical) , action, directing and narration are all exceptional. It was less violent on TV as it was PG-13 and that was bad enough. For me more violence would have been......over kill. The end is great!!
Mar 2, 2011
Fargo8
Mar 2, 2011
Very gruesome and that was with seeing it on TV. However, a great black comedy. When it was funny, it was funny. The acting was superb. The setting great. Directing outstanding. It was the violence that had me put it at an 8. That's just the way I am even though it was integral to the movie.

Philadelphia4
Mar 2, 2011
This movie was the beginning of the end for me going to the movies regularly. For such a serious drama it sure didn't make sense in that the ACLU didn't take the case. Please. With Tom Hanks in the witness chair I was saying to myself, "Just have him show the lesions." And so it happened. I hate knowing what will happen or what should happen. When the lights came up in the theater, everyone was sitting their silently and looking at one another puzzled and they were no doubt saying to one another what we were: "That movie stunk. Who said it was any good. It didn't make sense." And we are from Philadelphia. Not that the title had anything to do with the movie except it was set in Philadelphia. Over the years my movie going has tapered off to the point that I can go years without going to the movies. Then I go and never want to go again.

The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King10
Mar 2, 2011
I have read and re-read these books for 25 years. When I saw them I was blown away. True to the story and CGI, visuals were excellent. The only time I was disappointed visually was when they used little people. It was not done well. And read the books.
Mar 2, 2011
The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy2
Mar 2, 2011
I gave it a 2 because it is only fair not to give it a 0 because I couldn't watch the whole thing. That being said, I couldn't get through the original (I am pretty sure there was one) nor the book.
Mar 2, 2011
Garfield: A Tail of Two Kitties7
Mar 2, 2011
It moved slowly but was cute and kids will like the antics. Garfield is CGI while the humans and other animals are non-animated. Very good for families.
Mar 2, 2011
Napoleon Dynamite10
Mar 2, 2011
High school teenage issues in a backwards town where everyone dresses as if they are in the 80's, a little behind the times. Phones with long cords, moon boots, 80's hair styles and Tupperware RULE! Napoleon is the sweetest and clueless of them all. It was created, written, produced and acted by college/college graduates and unknowns, won awards, was made on a shoestring and made lots of money.
Mar 2, 2011
V for Vendetta8
Mar 2, 2011
I gave it an 8 only because it was much too violent in the end. I saw both the TV version, still somewhat violent, and cable not realizing it was the R version until well into the end. I thought it was a great film as it was not just original, directed and acted well, but I found it to be artsy. Usually Americans cannot execute or enjoy the artsy films like the Europeans can. It has a message about people vs. governments but in a way that is not offensive.
Mar 2, 2011
Shaun of the Dead10
Mar 2, 2011
Unbelievably funny. I saw this just a year ago and screamed in laughter. These actors were so funny and had great comedic timing. It is bloody even for the TV version so for R, you are probably in for some gruesome scenes. The storyline, even if it is a spoof of the classic "Dawn of the Dead" was original and brilliantly written.

March of the Penguins10
Mar 1, 2011
This really is a great movie for the family. I was really surprised as to how good this movie was. It was a tad preachy but it really was necessary for the story line so it did not get in the way. How the humans were filmed, without animation, was brilliant. It was short and captivating.
Mar 1, 2011
I, Robot8
Mar 1, 2011
Very enjoyable. The CGI is done very well and Will Smith did a great job. It is a very original plot with action, drama, comedy and sadness. The way the robots are programmed and constructed and how they are used by mankind was done very well.
Mar 1, 2011
Twelve Monkeys8
Mar 1, 2011
This was science fiction time travel at its best. I am not a fan of Brad Pitt but he portrayed a mentally ill man very well. Bruce Willis is also not one of my favorite actors but he also did a great job as a reluctant pawn of scientists. Great plot.
Mar 1, 2011
Dances with Wolves8
Mar 1, 2011
I thoroughly enjoyed this movie. A great story with great acting and directing. Although it has conflict with Native Americans it was really nice to see a story with such great humanity and friendship with them. It is seriously long and honestly, I don't think I could ever watch it again but it was great.
