A game with a soul.
Every aspect of the game has a lot of work and heart put into it and it shows. The banters between the characters are little gems. The world is fleshed out and immersive. You have an impact on the world and your decisions matter. For me it captured the strategic gameplay of old classic like BG1-BG2. You have a team that you must put into actions and strategically position. You need to make the best use of your team skills to make through the hard fights, but smaller fights get dealt with easily by your team without and issue. For me this is a plus, but it's not everyone's cup of tea and that's fine. I just which there were more crpgs like this nowadays.
I had a LOT of reservations to try this game because I had so much hatred for the second opus of dragon age. My heart was broken as the first one is one of my favorite games of all time. It took 10 years before I gave it a try, especially considering the mixed reviews of the game.
I was pessimistic but the story, the characters and the journey as an inquisitor took me where I did not expect. It is a good game. The lore and the political intrigues are nuanced and immersive, your impact is satisfying and the characters feel fleshed out. The downside is the immensity of the game and the amount of side quests that are not essential. It is pleasant to visit the many areas but if I'm honest, it's better to cherry pick what you want and ignore the rest.
This game is clrealy not planescape torment but if you enjoyed planescape torment you will probably enjoy this game too. They have both very meaningful dialogue and deep philosophical perspectives play a large role in both universes.
It took me some time to get into the game because you have almost always the option to fight or not your way through and if you dont have enough fights early on... it can become frustrating. It should be more balanced. I would not advice someone that hate reading to get into that game, it is just not for you. As someone that love videogames and love books, I felt like this game was made for me. I would say that sometimes it feels like they are trying too much in terms of philosophical lore though.
The story is one of the most immersive I’ve played. The characters are memorable and charismatic. The music and the art is magnificent. The art style is beautiful and will never fade. As a fan of DnD I love the gameplay. This is a masterpiece in everyway.
