Star Ocean: The Second Story R9
Nov 12, 2023
While some of the more complicated systems and unfriendly guides are a bummer, there's a lot to dig into compared to recent RPGs that try to take the easy way out. The story is bland, but the characters are well-defined, the combat is simple, the fast-paced mechanics make it less tedious than it should be, and there's a decent sense of satisfaction as you progress.

Octopath Traveler II10
Oct 22, 2023
The beautiful artwork in irreplaceable HD-2D graphics and the combat experience that brings each character's personality to the turn-based battles is a great experience for fans of the past. The story of each hero is also more immersive than before, and the game is a masterpiece that improves on the mechanics and details that were lacking in its predecessor.

Resident Evil 410

I'd say it's the best of the remakes (for those who value action and shooting more than anything else). The moderate difficulty curve and hidden challenges provide good incentive for deeper play, and the overall level design and combat play, which blends melee and ranged combat, is unlike anything you'll find in any game.

Wartales6
Oct 22, 2023
If you enjoyed playing Battle Brothers, Wartales is a great alternative. The exploration and adventure elements in the field, as well as the immersive combat and farming elements, are certainly enjoyable, but the very slow pace of progression and long periods of pointless replayability make it a bit of a struggle to get to the ending.

Horizon Forbidden West: Burning Shores6

The experience was more tedious than the previous DLC, and the repetitive movement and simple combat made it a little harder to immerse yourself. However, I think the final boss battle did a good job as a finale.

Horizon Forbidden West6
Oct 22, 2023
A AAA game that lives up to its predecessor's reputation. However, the experience hasn't changed much from its predecessor, and its shortcomings are clearly still there. The storytelling is tedious, the dialog is long-winded, and the combat, while an improvement, doesn't really feel like much.

God of War: Ragnarok8
Oct 22, 2023
Another great game in a great series. However, I wasn't as impressed with the combat mechanics and experience as I was with the previous installments, and I still didn't find the maps to be as accessible as they were in the previous installments, so that didn't add much depth to the game.

Darkest Dungeon II6
Oct 22, 2023
It doesn't seem to be a great fit for the roguelike genre, and while I was able to stick with it through the first playthrough, the game system doesn't allow for a lot of freedom to try different combinations, which is something that keeps me from repeating it. However, the change in art style and quality, and the combat itself, was a very immersive and satisfying experience.

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor7
Oct 22, 2023
With the combat difficulty cranked up to a certain level, the experience should be well balanced between adventure and combat and feel fulfilling enough. The story is simple but purposeful enough to motivate you to the ending, and the field design isn't bad either. It's just a shame that the game is so heavily focused on the adventure element, and the rewards for adventure and combat aren't rewarding enough to keep you engaged outside of the storyline.

Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty7

The new approach to parrying and the fluid combat mechanics do a great job of creating something completely different from the Nioh series, but it's a shame that the over-reliance on parrying makes the overall experience feel flat.

Final Fantasy XVI9
Oct 22, 2023
With a fresh approach to combat and staging, the summoners that are at the heart of Final Fantasy's identity are one of the best experiences in the series' history. A boring storyline and monotonous fields are definitely a drawback, but the above strengths alone are enough to earn it a spot in the masterpiece ranks.

Remnant II7
Oct 22, 2023
The best of the soul-like genre with a shooter twist. Not bad visuals and combat motivated me to play through to the ending, but the somewhat monotonous combat and environments discourage repeat playthroughs and keep me from coming back after clearing it.

Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon7
Oct 22, 2023
The best of the mechanic game genre. Not bad visuals and intense combat and customization make for an experience that's hard to beat in the current market, but the difficulty curve is too extreme and the gear-specific balancing is too biased to make the experience monotonous.

Baldur's Gate 39
Oct 22, 2023
The enjoyable exploration and deep combat that are the hallmarks of a role-playing game are very satisfying, but the open-world-like nature of the field and the sheer number of places to go is a bit tiring compared to its predecessor (for those who explore every inch of the map in depth), but this irreplaceable game is a masterpiece.

Cyberpunk 207710
Oct 22, 2023
Beautiful art and story development make for a very satisfying experience. However, the linear storyline may discourage further play after the ending. Since the 2.0 update, combat is also a top-notch experience, so we've increased the score by 2 points.

Combat is a somewhat absurd experience, but overall a game with a great sense of pattern and accomplishment. However, the art style is somewhat unappealing, and the absurdity gets stronger the further back you go, which makes repeat trials less compelling.

The graphics are good and the game itself isn't bad. However, the lack of an engaging main story and side stories are just too unappealing compared to previous Bethesda games (Fallout 4 / Skyrim). I wouldn't be surprised if I quit at some point.
