Josh's anxiety may occasionally drive you mental. But then, if you can fully appreciate the brilliance of this quarterlife-crisis suicide comedy, you may already be a little mental. So that's nice.

Showrunner/star Josh Thomas has only gotten better at mixing mordant one-liners with nuanced emotional drama. [16 Oct 2015]

It's not only the charm of the characters that raises "Please Like Me" above the lazy comparison. The series is also funny.

The humor is subtle, almost deadpan, but brilliant at every turn. Some moments become excruciating to watch, only because we've formed an immediate affection for Josh and hate seeing him screw things up for himself.

Much of the show’s appeal lies in the cast’s shaggy, naturalistic chemistry, which papers over the occasional imperfect plot turn.

The pilot episode is more amusing than hilarious, but it's often delicately funny thanks to Mr. Thomas' odd duck character and his reactions to those around him. When Geoffrey (Wade Briggs) hits on him, he's flummoxed.

Extraño a Josh.

Josh Thomas is a popular Australian comedian who created, wrote and stars in this 4-season series. The fact that he's very gay is handled in the first episode and after that it's about his close circle of friends (all of whom are straight), his parents (who are separated) and a string of cute boyfriends (with lots of kissing). What makes the show so much fun is Thomas' clever, quirky, neurotic, snotty, but ultimately captivating character. Add an enjoyable supporting cast and snappy dialogue and the result is lots of fun (with moments of earnest sweetness). After season one, Hanna Gatsby (who has become famous for her stand-ups) makes a delightfully deadpan addition. His follow-up series Everything's Gonna Be OK is also on Hulu.
