It’s a rare show that manages to balance riveting action with an almost poetic rhythm, but the contrasts exist in concert here, and broadly, this is yet another show that proves how far Apple TV+ has gone beyond its competitors in greenlighting great television.

Tough, tense and thoughtful, this is a deeply grown-up thriller — and more compelling journalistic filmmaking from co-showrunner Mark Boal.

Echo 3 is a smartly written, layered, and deeply emotional political thriller. It's competently made with precision and a special eye for the little things.

It gets a lot of mileage out of that crossroads of violence and need—how far people are willing to go to better their situation is something that should never be underestimated. And it reminds one of a theme that Boal has often explored in his projects before: In combat, everyone is a hero, and no one is a hero at the same time.

What this action series, from The Hurt Locker Oscar winner Mark Boal, may lack in originality it compensates for with its grim intensity. [5 - 18 Dec 2022, p.5]

Some members of the Colombian military and the rebel crew have personalities or hints of backstory, but not real characters. And at the same time, the various missions to rescue Amber are individually suspenseful without any overall momentum or cumulative tension-building. I’ll be curious to see if it all comes together as something truly good or just settles for well-meaning aspiration.

There simply isn’t enough characterization in the preceding episodes to justify a particularly deep investment in these people, one might feel largely ambivalent about Amber’s fate until halfway through the season—at which point the show, much like Amber, might be beyond saving

This is a hugely uneven first batch of episodes, with too many story threads, characters lacking in substance, and a surprising deficit of energy, only reminding you of what could have been every time Collins's character is truly given the spotlight.

Not great but enjoyed the scenes of Colombian city stuff. The plot and story sort of drag along for about 8 episodes, then it all goes down and it's not that awesome.

Started rather slow, but momentum built through the season. The female lead Jessica Ann Collins was really not great. Her acting over the last two episodes, along with the nonsensical dialog she was given really leaves a bad taste in your mouth.

Started off pretty well, good action and a decent story line. Then got lost in the weeds of of confusion, sometimes complicated and boring. The Ending was quite lacking. Not sure if they're doing a season 2 but I'm out.

Both stars to Luke Evans as he carries this flop. What could have been a competent action/thriller turnd into a mess of so-called inteigue that amounts to nothing. The plot is convoluted to make it appear complicated, but the characters are so thin, none of it jibes. The action is less interesting than watching people pay COD live on Twitch, and outside Evans, the acting is atrocious, especially the female lead (can't be bothered to look up her name as she's a terrible actress with no redeeming qualities. I hate to say it, but she isn't even attractive, not that that would save a dismal performance. Its as if they actuvely sought out the ugliest actress. Why would a handsome, rich guy ever marry this woman). The whole thing comes off as some vanity project that the writer/director.created yo let his friends star in.
