In an era saturated with heist thrillers, Culprits is one of the good ones: smart, exciting and very, well, slick.

All in all, it’s fast-paced and flashy, and it feels emotionally honest, at least in the characterization of the two romantic leads who form the heart of the story. Does it completely revolutionize the heist-show formula? Of course not. But there is enough style and substance for it to leave a strong impression.

After a big heist, the criminal crew goes their separate ways, until they're suddenly being targeted by a killer. One man (Nathan Stewart-Jarrett) who has started a new life in Seattle, returns to England in an effort to find the culprit and save his new family. This show has many of the genre's familiar elements, including mysterious characters, twisting plot points and violent deaths. Fortunately, they're all done well, which keeps the series interesting with a few surprises. Stewart-Jarrett handles the drama and action effectively, Genna Arterton is steely cold as the mastermind and Eddie Izzard takes a fun turn as the bad guy. Even without bringing anything new to the genre (and sometimes taking too long), this series is smart and slick

What a crazy show, and by the end, it turned out to be pretty mid. The love story ruined the action-packed TV show. Another Disney+ show that's ruined by the woke narrative. It could've been so much more

Culprits may not have made an entirely clean getaway, but it still largely delivered a fun contemporary caper.

There is flair, fun and finesse here, particularly in the performance and staging, but overall, Culprits is a stickup series that doesn’t quite pull off the heist.

After a strong start, with the series immediately drawing you in and holding you there, the final couple of episodes fall flat. But there is much to enjoy about Culprits, with Stewart-Jarrett's performance as David a particular highlight. He's the beating heart of this story, as he desperately scrambles to protect his family from the impending hellfire that is 'Devil' - another highlight - and in his more emotional, tender scenes, he shines.

Is it possible that some viewers will feel invested enough after five episodes to maintain enthusiasm through the less-than-lackluster conclusion? Yes, but by the end I felt like I was watching a child’s haphazard finger-painting much more than the work of a modernist master.

Culprits never comes close to sealing the deal. As Reservoir Dogs tributes go, this one is a bit of a howler.

Just more Hollywood WOKE attitudes wrapped up in a random story. Our view is: "no point watching such bullying, abuse, and stereotyping."
