It's essentially a drama about political negotiation, alliances, compromises and principles. It is very odd to see a political drama about a principled politician, but it never overreaches into Aaron Sorkin-level prissiness, preachiness and obviousness... It's magnificently different.

"Borgen is a thrilling and engaging political drama that keeps you hooked from start to finish. The writing is superb, with well-developed characters and intricate storylines that delve into the complexities of Danish politics. The show is led by the fantastic performance of Sidse Babett Knudsen as Birgitte Nyborg, the prime minister of Denmark, who is both powerful and vulnerable, making her a relatable and compelling protagonist. The show's attention to detail and realism add to its authenticity, and the production values are top-notch. The dialogue is sharp and witty, and the pacing is perfect, with each episode leaving you eager for more. Overall, Borgen is a must-watch for fans of political dramas and anyone looking for a well-crafted and thought-provoking TV show.

If West Wing is like a fast paced thriller, Borgen is like a gentle romance. It grabs your attention right off the bat and holds it till the very end. You my suffer from withdrawal when it is over, at which point you set a reminder to watch it again three or six months later with the hope that it will feel just a fresh as the first time. The only (minor) issue is it is in Danish with English subtitles. Great theme, fantastic acting and subtle but captivating musical score. Very well done!

The show is beautifully plotted. The many intrigues in the worlds of politics, journalism, business, and PR are given just enough twists and turns to be surprising, but never so many that they become tiresome.

I don’t know if I will get though all 30 episodes, but I badly need a dose of realpolitik leavened with a some sense of idealism and hope, and this feels like just the ticket.

Borgen may be the hardest show to find on American television, but at the moment it’s also one of the best.

It's difficult to imagine that even American broadcast TV would import the cliche-ridden melodrama of "Borgen," but if it captures the credible heart of the story - that moderation has a place in politics and can beat old-fashioned backroom deals - it holds promise.

A pleasure to see a strong female character trying to navigate having it all in a nordic country where social norms and support do not mean manipulation and dark zones are not inherently present in the political landscape.
