The scary parts of the show really are scary and the actors are all appealing.

The hauntings are staged for maximum creepiness; the show (and James) look great.

I did enjoy this show. It has a very creepy vibe to it. It makes you feel what the characters feel. If you want to jump and be afraid of what might go bump in the night then Bedlam is for you. Yes it might not be the best show that is on right now, but I would say this is most better than American Horror story that just recently started as well.

I watched 4-5 episodes early this year and found "Bedlam" rather peculiar. Plots seemed oddly circuitous, as though the show started filming with just a few ideas on a **** napkin, rather than scripts. A few of those ideas were good ones, fresh and scary, but the show took so long to develop them that I lost interest. (And, no, I'm not one of those Americans who typically finds British television "slow.") The female lead is selfish and cruel, which would be fine (interesting, actually), were it not that the sweet, vulnerable male lead clearly adores her. And, no, I don't think he's supposed to be stupid or masochistic. There's no chemistry among the actors, just as it's inconceivable that the roommates at the center of the series would actually live together, no matter how desperate the housing market. Plus, we've seen haunted insane asylums before--though I will say the residential conversion is a droll touch. Perhaps I was just in an impatient mood when I watched, but I truly couldn't get into this series. I'll be interested in others' comments, though.

Though the stories provide plenty of jolts, Bedlam becomes less scary with repetition during its six-episode duration, because we can see these persistent ghouls all too easily.

Too bad we've seen it all before, with more inspired execution and interesting characters.

I watched the first 2 episodes and found it disjointed and just plain uninteresting. I didn't find it the least bit scary or frightening. It was very boring and dull. I love English TV shows but this one is certainly one that I would rather not have to watch again. I just couldn't get into it at all.
