When done well, they are scintillating cinematic brain teasers, and Timecrimes is one of the best time travel films to come along in, er, quite some time.

Vigalondo is only partially capable of building suspense (the film's latter stages contain one knot too many); his achievement owes more to his imagination than his pop craftsmanship.

Best foreign film I've seen in a while. If you are in the mood for a suspense, thriller and either can deal with subtitles, enjoy them, or speak Spanish; watch this film! It really was nice to watch a movie that is not a remake, super cliche, or with terrible acting. Speaking of acting, there are really only four actors in this film, two of which are very minor, and one is the director. All together, the acting was superb.Timecrimes flows so well, and without any confusion. A person with little to no understanding in topics like the pseudoscience workings of a time machine, or knowledge of the space time continuum could easily understand what is happening in the film. The movie was close-to perfectly written and pieced together with zero holes that I could find. I seriously may re-watch this movie with my fiance or friends very soon, and it would be totally worth it. For my full review, visit ****/2012/03/timecrimes.html

Overall, it's a nice melding of sci-fi and a crime story.

Yet while it isn't that hard to stay a step or two ahead of Timecrimes, the movie is still a nifty little genre piece, an old-fashioned science-fiction mind-game with a healthy dollop of "Oh, the irony."

Timecrimes welds a B-movie plotline to precision-engineered writing and a down-to-earth style; add an engagingly sloppy, nonplussed hero, who remains unfazed by the time-bending scrape in which he finds himself, and the result is memorably offbeat.

There's a dark and demented little psychodrama of self-inflicted madness beneath the narrative contrivances. Vigalondo's direction makes it work more like a waking nightmare than a genuine experience, and he gives it the quality of madness.

Only half as clever as it thinks and even less entertaining.

Overall pretty engaging. Two negatives - unrealistic character reactions to events, and lack of motivation in the plot (particularly in Hectors actions in the middle piece). On the plus side there's a pretty clever bit of time-twisty plot logic, and the those twists come so fast your head won't stop spinning

Many people praised Vigalondo for Colossal, which for me was a huge disappointment, but from everything I've seen of him so far, this is his best film.

$2.6m budget for this! It would be difficult to justify $50k. Weak time loop trite. Watch it for a laugh but don't expect any special effects apart from a bit of tomato sauce.
