Chaves has become a skilful enough craftsman that he deserves parole to pastures new. Meanwhile, Wilson and especially Farmiga, who have lent gravitas to so much that’s profoundly trumped up and silly, can take a long-deserved bow.
As a fan of the Conjuring universe, I was both excited and a little nervous to watch The Conjuring: Last Rites. This film feels like a slower, more emotional goodbye to the series rather than a non-stop scare fest. The story focuses deeply on Ed and Lorraine Warren’s personal journey, giving us a chance to see their struggles and emotions beyond just the ghost **** movie delivers plenty of creepy moments—especially scenes involving mirrors and eerie silence in an attic—that gave me chills. The haunted atmosphere is strong, but the scares are less frequent and intense than in previous installments. Instead, the film leans heavily into character development and the emotional toll these supernatural events take on the Warrens and their family. While this might not be the most thrilling Conjuring movie out there, it’s heartfelt and haunting in its own way. It’s a fitting, if somewhat slower, farewell for fans who have followed the Warrens' story throughout the years. If you enjoy horror movies that balance scares with deep human emotion, then The Conjuring: Last Rites is definitely worth a watch.

As a scary movie, 'The Conjuring: Last Rites' is a generic film, neither good nor bad. It’s practically begging audiences to judge it on a 'pass/fail' basis. As the conclusion of the 'Conjuring' series, it’s a little more successful, but not much.
A fun blend of scares and sentiment, this largely justifies a lengthy run time with effective frights and a valedictory feel. Just don’t watch it before trying to clear out the attic.
With the dour drudgery of “Last Rites,” it has never been more clear that it’s time to move on from their story, even as the memories of better installments linger.
That this highly derivative horror series bottoms out by over-investing in the Warrens — its most reliable creation, the only one that’s undeniably its own — is a sure sign that it is well past its utility.
The Conjuring: Last Rites solidifies The Conjuring franchise as the Fast & Furious of horror movies: A conservative, Christian, family-oriented, spin-off and sequel-laden series of adventures that lose the plot and reinvest in the audience’s affection for its familiar beats and cornball leads.
Not terrible, but far from the high points that made the original films so memorable. While Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson once again deliver strong performances as Lorraine and Ed Warren, their chemistry and emotional depth can only do so much to carry a story that often feels uneven. The film tries to balance being a chilling supernatural mystery with offering a heartfelt conclusion to the Warrens’ saga, but the result is a bit messy. Some scenes build tension effectively, especially in the first act, but many of the scares rely too heavily on predictable jump moments rather than slow-burn suspense. The atmosphere and cinematography remain impressive, keeping the gothic tone that fans expect, yet the pacing drags in the middle and rushes toward the finale. Despite promising to be the climactic chapter of the franchise, Last Rites plays it safe, avoiding bold storytelling choices that could have made it stand out. Overall, it’s a passable horror film that offers familiar chills and emotional beats for long-time fans, but it lacks the freshness and intensity that once made The Conjuring universe so powerful.
The Conjuring: Last Rites is overly fixated on themes of family, legacy, and closure, yet neglects to deliver a complete and impactful exorcism sequence.
This film is utter garbage. I regret every minute spent watching it; I wish I had never started. It feels like the creators have nothing but contempt for their audience, demonstrating a complete lack of concern for the incoherent disaster they delivered
The stupid subplot of Judy Warren ruins the movie. This could've been a very good 90 minute movie instead of a needlessly bloated movie of 2 hours. By the time the Warrens actually got to the house, I lost any interest. I'm sure there are good documentaries on the Smurl haunting on YouTube that are far better than this movie.
