Writer-director Choi Dong-hoon, whose grifter dramedy "The Big Swindle" was an unheralded gem two years ago, considerably ups the ante in his second feature, a long-limbed yarn centered on a bunch of ruthless professional gamblers. But involving characters and devil-may-care tone make the long running time hardly a stretch.

It's a ton of fun, a totally irresistible tale of gambling, greed, love and violence. With gorgeous actors, designer clothes and thrilling action, it's fast-moving (even at 2 hours, 20 minutes) popcorn entertainment.

The twists and turns continue until the very end of Choi's mesmerizing, high-energy romp, whose 139 minutes zip by like a round of speed poker.

A Timeless Masterpiece of Korean Cinema That Shines with Everlasting Style and Gritty Elegance.(재관람) 210920 (4.0)Do I know Tazza? It was easily the absolute best Korean film I know. A profoundly stylish movie whose luster remains deep and radiant even as the years go by. "Hwatu, such a pretty phrase. A fight waged with flowers." Goni running off after squandering his sister's entire divorce settlement and the family fortune is wild. Why did Master Pyeong even take Goni in? He feels like a comedic character, so funny with his "Asura Balbalta!" And Master Pyeong gives away signals so blatantly—how could anyone miss that? This is about my third time watching it, and every single viewing feels thrilling, taut, and snappy. It is the textbook definition of a classic Korean blockbuster, utterly splendid. "Is it cherry blossoms?" It brings back memories of Master Pyeong on that day petals were fluttering, and also reminds me of the Gyeongsang-do dialect where telling a lie is called "sappura." It feels so satisfying to re-experience and binge through all these iconic lines again. Goni flying off along with the scattering bills looks genuinely happy—wow.
