When five young men translated their experiences growing up into brutally honest music that rebelled against abusive authority, they gave an explosive voice to a silenced generation. Of course the "characters are not lovely" as i saw some critics saying about it. "The music isn't good" gotta be said by some white mf If you don't like the west coast music, why the **** would you see Straight Outta Compton? A homage to the origin of all the legends that were on it. The movie brings right in time the difficult of N.W.A and it's conflits as it tolds the good moments the group had together. The music will make a lot of sense mainly if you knew atleast something about it before.

Potent and visceral in its depiction of street life and blinged-up excess alike, Straight Outta Compton delivers big beats of both kinds.

It's overlong and sanitized but succeeds in presenting an important part of contemporary American culture to a mainstream audience.

It’s biopic syndrome, this impulse to condense events to hit the high notes, to provide fans with recognizable stories, to essentially act as a greatest hits album, and it sinks the second half of an otherwise compelling, funny and extremely entertaining film with a beat all its own.

Alternately riveting and wearying, up-to-the-minute relevant as well as self-mythologizingly self-indulgent — as much of a heroic origins story as anything out of the Marvel factory — Straight Outta Compton ends up juggling more story lines and moods than it can handle.

It's clear that Straight Outta Compton is at once too padded and too thin. It's as if the story of these real-life legends was so unruly and dangerous that the filmmakers became the cops, forcing it into submission.

the best movie about in the middle of hip hop
The actors who played EAZY E, DR DRE are incredibly equal to the real ones.

the bigger the story.. Straight Outta Campton Running for 166 minutes, Straight Outta Campton offers enough material especially after the first act and the perfect depiction with historical accuracy and genuine portrayals of real time characters. Its all the razzle dazzle as expected and also genuine emotions running within it to connect with a familiar story and still keeping it interesting. F. Gary Gary is excellent as a director he gives enough space and executes each and every frame perfectly with the help of amazing screenplay that allows enough range and space for the actors to flaunt their talents. But in the end, what itches is the overlong stretched script especially its first act which could have easily been edited and helped to boost up the script a bit.

This film had a lot of great scenes but they were far in between. I feel like a 45 minute shorter film with a bit more focus would have been a better package. It has this weird balance of condemning the life style and glorifying it. The credit scenes were the kind of lazy biopic have relied on all too often. Characters seemed all over the place with a lot of worthless characters that just added to the confusion of the story.

At least the movie gives some reality to the experiences of these people. Interestingly, the rappers made songs about hating the police like "F**k the police" and yet all their problems have nothing to do with the police. Other than making a worthless point at the time and now, the movie just isn't very good. Way too long, music is absolutely horrible and unlikable characters. The only brutality taking place is me having to watch this trash.

Average movie with below average acting. I think the hype machine has done a better job convincing people this movie is actually better than it is. The Hollywood fluff is obvious. The movie is missing the grit and reality. This group suffered from drug abuse, sexual assault, battery towards woman, and violence. Interesting how they forgot to put those in, making these guys look like heroes. Pioneers in the music scene yes but heroes they are not. Eazy E suffered from drug addiction to Cocaine, X, LSD, Crack, amongst many others including being a drunk 100% of the time. Dr Dre was charged several times with assault including beating up a waitress and getting charged for beating up his ex girlfriend. Ice Cube growing up with strict parents and becoming a dedicated father in the early 90's This truth never came up, was ignored and sadly the people will never experienced the real truth as to why this group fell apart. Watching it was hilarious how they keet ignoring the real truths scene after scene. Showing Eazy E and Dre treating woman so kindly and never once doing drugs. Please I wanted to see the GRIT and the REAL people these men were. Dre is a different man now and Cube grew up faster than all. This would have been a more powerful story showing how they grew up rather than ignoring the pain and trouble they were facing personally.
