Miyazaki celebrates individualism and nature’s simple, untainted beauties, subsequently pondering the transcendent power of communication between the “inside” and the “outside.”

The fact that Miyazaki and his team hand-draw the images before they're digitally coloured and animated gives them an artistry that has been woefully lacking from so many recent American features.

The first Studio Ghibli movie I ever watched, which kind of traumatised me as a child because I was probably a bit too young to see this when I first saw it, but absolutely worth a watch.

An out-and-out charmer. It's almost impossible to do justice in words either to the visual richness of the movie, which melanges traditional Japanese clothes and architecture with both Victorian and modern-day artifacts, or to the character-filled storyline, with human figures, harpies and grotesque creatures.

Wondrously strange and just plain wonderful.

Enchanting and impressively crafted.

Offers a ride worth taking -- an excursion through a fantastical pop universe that is pure, enchanting magic. Try it; you'll like it.

Too intense for the youngest viewers, but teenagers will enjoy it -- an ill-smelling "stink-god" character is almost worthy of a Kevin Smith gross-out movie -- and grown-ups should find it diverting, if not exactly deep.

This is my childhood anime that has set a standard. I would like just to start from the animation and drawing itself, every shot is incredibly beautiful, how Nature is drawn and depicted. All of the aquarelle colors bring such special feelings. Pictures of a bath-temple, so highly worked out, that you just want to look at every fragment. All the characters are so well elaborated on, no one is pure evil, everyone has something unusual and unique in them, it makes it so so colorful visually and internally. And the story, touching story of a kind child who would do everything for their beloved people, they are not spoiled with greed and want to help even those who can seem scary. There is a children wisdom that makes them trust in everyone's inner Good. I love how innocent this film is because it is something that kind of heals you and gives you more faith. Again and again: love your close ones and help, be kind and do not fall for external wealth. The topic of your name and how it can be taken, and for me it is about to remember who you are, because a name is something that we carry as a big part of our personality. And those who love us and care about us will always remind it. We can forget ourselves and can get lost, but love will find a way out. I actually cannot find fault with anything here. I will come back again and again to it.

Spirited Away is probably the only Hayao Miyazaki movie I think is decent. The art is really the only thing that saves it for me since I couldn't get a feel for the characters outside the animals and minor ones. It just falls flat in many parts to me especially with Haku.

Decent movie worth a watch, with a strong storyline and a good script. However, I am not a fan of the animation, it reminds me too much of Pokemon and the typical Japanese cartoons.

Overrated Miyazaki movie. Of all the wonderful Japanese animation there is out there, choose something less mainstream
