Blumhouse has certainly proved very successful with its inventive, low-budget approach to horror, but now that the company is spewing out movies like an assembly line, more and more duds are starting to appear. Everything about this effort, including its hackneyed, overfamiliar title, smacks of laziness and a cynical indifference to its lack of originality.

The first act was slow and felt like padding for time. Ok the character went from ineffectual, barely surviving due to luck and other peoples circumstance. Straight to epic legendary boss level at the end. I would of liked to see more gradual development of those mad skills. I found the cut a ways, super quick cuts and out of focus shots for the action parts annoying for this type of movie. This is a Predator movie and not showing that stuff clearly is a cinematic crime. Summing up this movie could of done with less padding, better rate of believable character progression with clearer action scenes.

Blumhouse produced this nifty teen version of Predator. It centers around a young man who goes on a sort of survival retreat after his father is murdered. After arriving solo he soon discovers hes not alone. He gathers up his strength to try and survive until the boat comes back. It's a suspenseful little horror flick even though it's a bit underdeveloped. More character and story work would have really hit the concept home. All in all not a bad watch. 6/10

It's an ok predator film, which isn't saying much considering how bad some of the last few films where. The plot is just ok and suffers from a lot of modern writing/modern audience tropes. The big one is that the main female lead (not sure they ever say her name in the film!) is a girl boss. She ends up outpowering men twice her size and her entire plot ark is her taking up a mans role because she wanted said role and was actively being repressed by men. There's even a scene where a man beats her up to get what he wants (of course this was after she holds her own in a fight against him). In the end she single handedly takes down the predator, something a team of commandos in the 80's with modern weapons struggled to do, so you be the judge on how silly this is. There are a lot of other noticeable tropes such as the native Americans all looking like glamor models, being clean and having white teeth whilst the evil French colonisers are visibly dirty, have terrible teeth, grunt and are overly violent. It's a noticeable narrative that they push in this film. Why am I giving it a 5 and not lower? Well to be fair, this isn't done as badly as it has been in other films and it's still almost enjoyable overall. It's just these things are noticeable and have no place in a predator film. I however would advise that you question any film reviews going forward from the professional critics who claim this is a masterpiece. I'm not sure what happened to their standards for this to be considered a masterpiece.

Unfortunately, the film somehow didn't appeal to me the whole time. I liked the setting, but otherwise the film left me cold without much emotion. The characters didn't engage me. Not much of a story either. The action sequences were also not much. For me, this is an average film. I don't know who I would recommend this to. I would rather advise you to skip this film.

This is B movie material that doesn’t go anywhere. The setting is the only thing going for this movie that never really comes together. Even that falls flat as it is just left as a backdrop from the really strange setup to why the main character ends up there in the first place. The small cast does fine in their roles, but the choices made for exposition and who/how it’s delivered is almost hilarious. I can’t say that this falls into the “so bad it’s good” category either. There’s really not much mystery left of what’s happening on the island, yet much is let to the viewers imagination. Once the initial intrigue wears off and the plot is spoon feed to you your left with the decision of weather or not a nap might have been a better choice then to continue to watch this movie. I did both.
