Monday

There will be viewers out there who will recoil from these two crazy kids' wild, exhibitionistic carnality, their druggy hedonism and their cavalier attitude toward interior decoration. But anyone else who's ever been in a relationship like this — especially the kind of that starts to feel like a codependent bipolar disorder trapped on a rollercoaster by the end — will painfully relate to Monday's sensual, funny and above all honest look at amour fou.

Monday asks, what happens when that thing you do with your life in lieu of a plan becomes the plan?

All in all, Mr. Papadimitropoulos maintains a delicate balance between the wryly hilarious and the heartbreaking, and sometimes the high wire trembles. But danger is intoxicating, and Chloe and Mickey—along with their audience—spend much of “Monday” delightfully drunk.

Monday, shot with a mostly Greek crew, has been made with some liveliness and skill, and the two actors really fuse. . . . But Papadimitropoulos treats most of the film as if he were making “Blue Valentine” or “Head-On”: a study in masculine narcissism.

Sebastian Stan, the Winter Soldier himself, shows he can turn up the heat with costar Denise Gough for a romcom romp in Greece that starts on a sexy, swooshing high before draining out the fun for dramatic insights that never come. Bummer.

Eventually, despite a number of Dionysian interludes, not least a drug-driven scooter ride with neither helmets nor clothes, this on-off emotional rhythm grows demoralizing, and the movie becomes a less than appealing blend of rave and rut.

Ultimately, the film is unable to overcome the mundanity of its simple, overly familiar scenario.

This movie was amazing. The leading actors did a wonderful job!! I already watched it 3 times haha.

(Mauro Lanari) It gives well the precariousness of a sentimental relationship began in a tourist resort and the impossibility of building a future glossing over the past failures.

There's some good acting in here, but the characters are very off-putting. The plot, or whatever that was, is very boring. It's hard to tell what director Argyris Papadimitropoulos wanted to say. Forgettable.

I would like to say that this was more attractive than it turned out to be, but it's not. There's no passion or excitement. It's just incredibly boring. I just couldn't get into the mood, and perhaps the most important flaw of all its shortcomings is the significant lack of chemistry between the leads. It's one of those typical movies that looks pretty, but doesn't have anything substantial to say.
