The movie attempts to strike a nerve and, in its efforts, occasionally demonstrates promise. A memorable death scene is accomplished with a blend of comedy, horror, and style. But it is a rare moment.

Takashi Shimizu is by no means a great film director, but in the early 00's he was an important part of the J-Horror boom in the western markets with The Grudge. Almost 20 years later he shows himself to be a director out of ideas and worse, recycling himself. He also directed the other film I just saw. Double disappointment.
