Heart Eyes

Despite some impressive kills and a respectable body count, Heart Eyes is more romcom than slasher. However, it's a genre mishmash that creates a wholly unexpected delight. Imagine Jason Voorhees stumbling onto the set of Sleepless in Seattle or an entry in the Scream franchise directed by Garry Marshall.

Thoroughly self-aware (perhaps to a fault), stocked with self-reflexive gags and gorily-orchestrated kills, the picture is endearing with its delightfully zippy charms.

Heart Eyes can’t help but swoon at the rich tradition of slashers serving as first-date fodder. It’s not especially scary, but it’s a thrill all the same.

It’s all fairly predictable. Anyone who has seen more than a couple of serial killer movies will have no problem assembling a list of possible masked murderers. But Josh Ruben’s film goes above and beyond when it comes to squelchy, visceral gore.

The creatives’ obvious affinity for the genre comes through in every frame of the film, and to their credit Heart Eyes includes many clever touches.

All in all, Heart Eyes is a fine horror movie. It has a fun and unique idea, and the first act of the movie is very strong, but Heart Eyes loses its way and culminates in a middling-to-bad third act that squanders all the potential of the premise and beginning.

It’s hard to discern who the film is for when it feels as if it’s been passed around genre writing classes in search of an identity.

I loved this film, definitely a slasher classic, I loved the mask, the deaths, 9/10

A bit of rom-com, a few cool kills – "Heart Eyes" is the perfect slasher for the weekend, nothing new, but entertaining and, for me, on roughly the same level as "Thanksgiving".

Heart Eyes intenta combinar dos géneros que rara vez se mezclan con éxito: la comedia romántica y el slasher. El resultado es una película que, aunque irregular, logra ofrecer una experiencia entretenida gracias a su propuesta poco **** historia juega constantemente con el contraste entre momentos románticos y escenas de violencia, creando un tono que por momentos se siente fresco, pero en otros pierde cohesión. Esta falta de equilibrio es uno de sus principales problemas, ya que no siempre queda claro si quiere hacerte reír, asustarte o ambas cosas al mismo **** así, su mayor fortaleza es precisamente esa rareza. Como dato curioso, la película se apoya en tropos clásicos del cine romántico para luego subvertirlos con elementos del terror, lo que le da cierta identidad **** es una gran película, pero sí una opción diferente para quienes buscan algo fuera de lo común dentro del género.

O filme é uma mistura de comédia romântica com terror, e pega o que há de mais clichê nos dois estilos. Pode até ser divertido, mas sinceramente tô cansado dessa estrutura previsível, com mortes em série e um vião tosco ao final. Ao menos não economiza no sangue, mas o ritmo é irregular. A melhor fala do filme é de um cara aparentemente gay, em que ele fala "Como vou explicar isso pros meus filhos?" (sobre os casos de morte). Daí você tira.

Just a cheesy rom com with some killing in it. If you like your horror movies, don't bother with this one.
