If you’ve ever been a dog owner and you’ve ever been nervous about what’s out there in the shadows, then more than likely, you’ve appreciated the company of a good dog by your side. Good Boy gives you that feeling when you’re watching it, and quite frankly, there were a couple of times when I reached for my own dog to give her a reassuring scratch behind the ears.

While other horror directors are busy chasing their tails trying to create genre defining moments, Ben Leonberg has succeeded creating a thrilling mid-budget horror that goes beyond pandering to animal lovers or tugging at our heartstrings.

Such a great passion project that deserves much more recognition than the usual crappy horror movies that release year after year. This stands among the great passion project horror movies like Blair witch. Most people will say it’s slow but if your attention span is longer than 10 minutes you’re bound to enjoy it and the section where they show how they made the movie made my rating go even higher. These people truly deserve recognition. We don’t see enough movies being made that have real heart put into it and something that shows they actually care about what they put out.

Peliculón, increíble ejemplo de como realizar una película con presupuesto limitado, los ángulos de cámara son increíbles acompañado de los efectos de sonido, exelentes sustos y tensión generada, ideal para estar al borde la silla toda la peli

In lesser hands, this could have been merely a gimmick but, with his feature debut, director Ben Leonberg delivers an effective, genuinely unsettling chiller.

Good Boy is a harrowing experience for dog lovers—or possibly anyone who’s noticed an animal staring at something you can’t quite perceive—yet the movie never quite unearths the subterranean chills of the most potent horror.

Good Boy works well enough on its own terms, managing to sustain sufficient tension throughout the course of its smartly concise 73-minute running time.

Even at a brief 73 minutes, Good Boy can feel stretched, a film that never quite convinces you that a short wouldn’t have worked better. Even though Indy is a remarkably expressive dog, there are only so many variations on dialogue-free scenes of him checking out a weird noise in the dark and the cycle soon gets repetitive, exposing a script that’s a bit on the thin side.

A horror tale told from the perspective of a dog, Ben Leonberg’s Good Boy is the sort of film that was always destined to live and die by the strength of its central gimmick.

Indy is adorable and a great actor. This is an endearing story about the protective bond between dogs and humans . It has a clever concept and the suspense, effects are great for such a small budget film

No es mala, pero hay 1000 opciones mejores para pasar el rato. Me dejó indiferente.

So tired of those low-budget nothingburgers "horror" movies. The dogs are cute and the shots and effects are beautiful, but it's so f*cking booooooooooring and zero scary...

What the hell is going on here? Why is there anybody rating this thing above a 5? Is it original? Yes, it is. However, that doesn't make it a good movie. Does it have a cute dog that seems to be really intelligent and is the best animal actor I have ever seen? Yes. However, that also doesn't make it a good movie. The bottom line is that this film is a little over an hour and even that felt like a stretch for the writers. Because they almost had nothing to fill that hour with. It was such a slog, my god. I caught myself falling asleep multiple times within just the first 20 minutes. My girlfriend and I almost shut it off but that just isn't our style. We pride ourselves on finishing films. "Good Boy" brought us to our limit. This movie isn't scary, it isn't tense, there wasn't a single moment that I was on the edge of my seat for, and it doesn't have "heart" like many reviewers say. The lack of heart is in large part due to the fact that the only real human actor in the film is absolutely atrocious. The actor who plays Todd actually sounds like he is a dubbing actor who would get work speaking on any number of Japanese/Korean films. Every line of his sounds incredibly forced and I am convinced his dialogue was added in post. The pacing is nonexistent because you can't pace a film if it has nothing of interest in it. It is just the dog seeing the shadow figure and reacting (or not reacting) to it; then rinse and repeat. My girlfriend gets scared at pretty much any horror film but this didn't even come close to creeping her out. We were too busy trying to stay awake or also trying to figure out what the hell was going on: Is the shadow creature the manifestation of death that only the dog can see? Or is it an actual demonic entity that has wiped out multiple people in Todd's family tree? As it turns out, the creator of the film doesn't know the answer to that question either. Unlike the creator though, I just don't care. Finally, I want to mention the lack of investment I had in the character, Todd. A wooden portrayal and thin writing have Todd basically behaving like a diseased piece of wood. There is nothing interesting about him. He loves his dog. Or does he? Why the HELL would Todd chain the dog up the way he did? What was that even about? And did Todd end his own life with pills? Because he left his dog outside chained up and that likely would have caused the dog to die from thirst or starvation. Why was he treating his sister so poorly? Oh yeah, I don't care. Only pseudo intellectuals who want to feel artsy and special will (pretend to) like this drivel. The rest of us see it for what it is, a novelty with a fun concept but horribly executed as if it were made by a bunch of film school students.
