Vertigo-inducing set pieces help shape Korean disaster movie Exit and its distinctive threat into a simplistically digestible and ultimately predictable big-budget outing with a slight edge.

A Thrilling and Punchy Disaster Comedy That Loses Its Narrative Grip in the Final Act.191229 (2.5)It definitely has punchy, gripping entertainment value. As expected, Korea does this kind of genre so well. 1. The supporting actors' performances are wonderfully solid. The monk's annual salary, haha, cracked me up right from the start. "Damn it, you said you were going, you're going, and what on earth have you been doing for an hour!" 2. People accusing Eui-joo of leading them on just because she has a bright, cheerful personality, confessing their feelings and pushing her relentlessly—it makes me feel so bad for her. That is probably how she kept losing friend after friend throughout her life. Yong-nam gathered up his courage over several years to confess again, but if Eui-joo had turned him down, she would have been branded as a terrible woman even after suffering so much to save his entire family, sigh. Poor, pitiable Eui-joo. 3. The unintentional nuisance caused by the family members feels so painfully realistic. Because they are genuinely worried, they try to grab the rope and scream, but in a situation where extreme focus is critical, all of that becomes a distraction. Still, from the family's perspective, they cannot help it because their hearts are burning with worry. 4. It started off so snappy and engaging, but the final third is quite a mess. Jo Jung-suk whines until the very end to the point where his diction becomes completely incomprehensible. And all those family members who rushed in—it feels like narrative setups that were abandoned and discarded before the movie just ended. Directed by Lee Sang-geun, the 2019 South Korean disaster comedy blockbuster "Exit" follows Yong-nam, an unemployed rock climber, and his college club junior Eui-joo as they use their agility, wits, and bouldering skills to navigate urban **** and escape a lethal, fast-spreading toxic gas enveloping Seoul.

This film was supposed to be a suspense and action story seasoned with comedy but in reality it's actually more a comedy with a suspense background and some action scenes. Also the implausibility of the whole plot is huge and adding the bad performances you barely get something worth saving from the whole thing. This film was a huge success in South Korea so I was hoping for something more solid, it wasn't the case.
