The cast, so packed with talent that Jean Reno and Cherry Jones barely register, is stuck with stagey dialogue. Juliet Rylance, in the Nina part, has a particularly hard time. But there are good points, including Janney’s obvious pleasure in her part.

At 92 minutes, Days and Nights feels choppy and hurried, pushing the narrative toward inevitable tragedy rather than exploring how these dispirited people got there.

f you like to be “in” on an impressive directorial debut, if you love film as an artistic medium - see this film. Mr Camargo has crafted an extraordinary ensemble piece with a eye for arresting cinematography that reminds one of Ingmar Bergman. Impressively, this director/writer also has ear for dialogue and a compassion for his characters that rivals Lena Dunham in its attention to the innate humor and pathos implicit in the angst in all families. The film is gorgeous, funny, and tragic. It has a lot on its mind: America, the family, the environment, romantic relationships, aids, art and the 1980’s. It has a haunting score. This filmmaker is a talent to watch. What a feat to entice this wonderful ensemble of international actors who have plenty of work. What drew them to the project? I’ll bet it was the script.

Loved this movie!!! What a beautiful film Days and Nights is. I was deeply moved by it. It was shot beautifully and everyone in it was terrific. The script was the right balance of elevated and “modern” language. I enjoyed the theatrical spirit that infused the ensemble work. I loved the updating to 1984, and the hints to AIDS without the double underlining (a terrific choice), the video installation piece, the sense of living at a turning point in time that was recognizable but not nostalgic. The music was achingly lovely. As was the whole film. Excellent!

The sylvan setting and short bursts of dramatic interplay are more interesting than coherent in this brief, undeveloped adaptation.

Unfortunately, the film’s sense of place is much more lucid than its sense of purpose.

The drama over dinner comes in small analgesic portions, and the secrets feel canned and the dialogue is too pretty to be believable.

In a movie, nothing good ever seems to happen at a country house. And when it comes to this film, nothing very interesting happens, either.

One of the best indies I have ever ever seen. Along with a brilliant cast and cinematographer, the film makes a voyage into the very soul of life and relationship. Visually stunning, haunting, reflective, as well as humorous. Just beautiful.

Excellent well acted, well directed film that was subtle and intriguing. Story was told without beating you over the head, letting you figure it out. Beautiful interplay between characters torrential inner states and the chaos of nature reflecting it. A solid character driven film that's rare in American filmmaking, where a piece of melodramatic trash like Skeleton Twins gets positive reviews and this film does not.
