Day Shift

Day Shift is a damned delight. One would be tempted to call it the best horror comedy of 2022 so far, but it mixes so many genres it’s more like 2022’s best horror-buddy-cop-cartel-drama-bounty-hunter-martial-arts-action comedy (so far).

Jamie Foxx might have top billing, but right there beside him are the professional contortionists whose eye-popping moves are more commonly seen in Las Vegas showrooms than on movie screens.

Everyone in this cast does their best to strike the right balance between seeming in on the joke and acting like all of this bloody absurdity is normal.

The action is well-shot, and the buddy dynamic is fun. There’s plenty here that’s familiar, but it’s actually not a terrible way to spend a couple of hours with your Familiar.

As far as Netflix movies go, Day Shift is inoffensive enough for your viewing pleasure. But I wanted more.

Jamie Foxx is always interesting to watch. His latest movie isn’t. With “Day Shift,” reach for the garlic, not the remote.

Day Shift pauses for a promising concept every now and then before zooming off to its next helping of amped-up gore. The graphic violence is never terribly disturbing, mostly because it’s rendered with cartoonish exaggeration.

Best vampire movie since From Dusk til Dawn, and as much fun as The Lost Boys.

Good movie, very entertaining but the end could have been better, everyone is tired of the typical happy ending.

Day Shift, reminded me Bright movie. The movie has nothing new inside but I didn't get bored because of the camera usage. J.J. Perry did a great job I can say. Some of the scenes were just wow.

I was surprisingly enjoying this one until the final third of the film. That is when it all fell apart. The action scenes looked terrible, the villain was barely featured and shallow, and the ending was all too cliched. It's a shame, this one had the potential early on.

I could be benevolent and disregard too many things, but does it make sense? Not really. Not when the movie is that bad. I understand and accept without any problem that for many people this goofy mix will be more than enough for their entertainment, but I found it neither funny, nor amusing. Vampires have become a bland and conventional plot device, even in films like this one that try to give them a twist with their formulas, but not only are they deplorable bad guys for this story, they're just not threatening at all. Jamie Foxx takes it seriously enough, but the rest of the cast doesn't do themselves any favors. Karla Souza is a lousy villain, while Dave Franco, who's just a few years shy of being 40, is happy to be a buffoon who uses peeing his pants out of fear as a humorous device. Seriously? I honestly had a bad time. All jokes aside about Netflix's current situation, in all honesty the company is just a constant source of disappointment when it comes to movies.
