Cyrano

Cyrano is a delicate dream of a movie, the kind of film that feels like you might have merely imagined it — light on the surface but long on subconscious impact.

The real draw is Dinklage: with his mournful eyes and crooked smile, he's the tender, towering soul of Cyrano.

Cyrano is meant to make you cry, and this musical and its star do, and more than once.

The vivid performances capably capture the humanity at the centre of a film that can sometimes be dominated by Wright’s showy excesses — in particular, his overly elaborate set pieces. But there’s no mistaking Cyrano’s sense of tragedy, its lament for soulmates destined not to get their happy ending.

From the moment Cyrano enters the action, his charisma and intelligence are on splendid display, and Dinklage — jaunty, melancholy, sly — takes possession of the movie. But that means that the argument on which the drama depends is over before it has even begun.

In the end, the most valuable aspect of “Cyrano” is that it shows that Peter Dinklage can do anything.

Cyrano is a thuddingly dull film that sinks under the ponderous undigested mass of its own bombast, squandering the talents of a fine cast and a fine concept.

The snowflakes like snorkiss will literally be triggered by ANYTHING nowadays it’s insanity. Get help. As for the movie itself, it’s a fairly competent version of a story most people know with Dinklage stealing most scenes (as he’s meant to; the film is really just a vehicle for him to do his thing). The film itself would be closer to a 7 but scores aren’t properly indicative so I’m giving it a 10 to help offset the crybabies that are allowed to troll on this site.

At times uneven but buoyed by a strong cast and excellent production values.

Así de primeras, me ha faltado algo, bien las actuaciones, bien en la forma, muy bien en lo musical, pero en lo general me ha dejado algo frío (no tiene que ver con el final), quizás porque baila mucho en el dramatismo que le quieren dar y no acaba de encontrar su tono claro en la historia. · Cosas buenas: la banda sonora (incluso más que la parte musical), el plano formal (dirección, planos...), diseño de producción maravilloso, el vestuario de lo mejorcito y actoralmente no hay ninguna queja. · Cosas malas: no acaba de encontrar su tono, es algo inestable y baila mucho entre el drama. · Conclusión: es una buena reversión de la historia para mí, pero creo que eso, no se acaba de encontrar sobre todo en la narración, en el plano formal es una gozada y yo creo que se puede disfrutar bastante.

Let me state that I am a huge fan of Peter Dinklage, and any body of work in which he participates, is elevated. That said, the music is painfully sophomoric, unimaginative, shapeless, and without any musical merit, whatsoever. I found myself muting the television when such attempts at singing this musical rubbish presented, only distracting me from what may have been valuable in this film.
