No one does this genre better than actor-writer-director Christopher Guest.

A barkingly funny new "mockumentary" that does for those canine pageants what the helmer's 1996 "Waiting for Guffman" did for smalltown theatrics.

This is a masterpiece of humour! Once again I am puzzled by the negative reviews here. It is a delightful caricature made to look like a documentary.

Zooms along, as a comedy should. Essentially just a compilation of quirky couples, and their dogs. All the couples are believable, yet absurd. It does build to a winner, but the most fun is what happens along the way. Funny, wit great improv with many memorable lines (e.g., "We both love soup" ; "We met at **** at the same Starbucks, but we saw each other at different Starbucks across the street from each other.") Fred Willard, as the clueless earnest color commentator, takes this movie up from a 7 to 8. Out of a lot of good to great performances, his is Best in Show.

You will be surprised by the film's poignancy when the winner is announced. You may even get choked up. You will care that much.

While the movie is frequently sharp and funny and weirdly relatable, the material feels too much like reality.

Gets blue-ribbon results from its thoroughbred cast of improvisational comics.

Guest begins -- but doesn't end -- with caricatures, then peels away at our preconceptions until we see the heart and soul beneath.

Best in Show succeeds only insofar as you're willing to laugh at a bunch of sad freaks.

'Best in Show" is boasts an appealingly quirky premise and a brilliantly talented cast. We were so lucky to have Catherine O'Hara and Fred Willard in our lives.

A hilarious and brilliant parody of dog show culture, and how ridiculously obsessive contestants get for the perfect thoroughbred show dog.

Christopher Guest and his regular cast of improv legends tackle another unsuspecting target in this wild-eyed send-up of the competitive dog show circuit. It's a bit more all-audiences than Spinal Tap, completely skips the emotional hooks of A Mighty Wind or Waiting For Guffman, but still delivers enough snickers to validate its simple retirement as late-night cable network filler. The straight-ahead plot never shows much interest in progressing beyond simple character-driven adventure, and while each member of the cast is good for a smart punchline or two, the roles themselves are little more than shallow, narrow caricatures. Fine as a background flick, thrown on to fill the air when your focus will be frequently elsewhere, it never reaches the same heights as its siblings.

It astonishing how many good reviews there are. It feels like an episode of The Office, but without the charm, or the humor, or the emotion. It's just a movie about people going to a dog show. That's it. That's basically the entirety of the script

one of half a dozen movies that i couldn't even finish watching! It's all about a dog show and peoples who are crazy about their dogs. It's supposed to be funny and have some kind of unique comedy and i see that a lot of people liked it. It's not my taste of comedy but that's the point what one considers funny, another does not.
