9 Temples to Heaven

Echoes of Weerasethakul aside, Chidgasornpongse has sculpted a stirring, unnerving film with its own acuity and rhythm.

9 Temples To Heaven is an intimate yet sprawling family drama which serves as both delicate metaphor for political, generational and social diversity in modern Thailand, and an intensely recognisable portrait of simmering intra-family tensions and resentments.

Enlightenment and self-reflection emerge out of lingering glances, ritualistic gestures, and long car rides. The film casts a gently enticing spell, and it builds to a satisfying conclusion that rewards your curiosity.

Sompot Chidgasornpongse’s film takes a slice-of-life approach to its storytelling as it explores themes of generational differences, superstition, and faith in Thailand.
