Way of the Hunter is an entertaining hunting simulator with a message to convey. The story was charming, and the gameplay was engrossing, though at times it felt like the deer had better detection skills than the hunter.

After each direct hit, you can see in slow motion and in great detail which trajectory your bullet traveled, where and with what force it hit the animal, which vital organs were pierced and at what point your poor prey died. No gratuitous violence, but a realistic, almost scientific representation of how you killed that innocent pheasant or that cute little deer. After more than three decades of playing video games, there is very little that makes us uncomfortable, but 'Way of the hunter' occasionally made us gulp.

Way of the Hunter sacrifices fun for realism, and coupled with some other aggravating elements is a game I cannot recommend.

People where hoping this would be an alternative to COTW without the **** and it has kinda delivered on parts of that. Mostly on the alternative part. You buy (I don't actually recommend buying it, multiplayer is dysfunctional anyways) this because it's like 1 of 2 serious hunting games in existence. Not because it's all that great. Or like, still in active development. This is a weird game. The one thing they got right, partially at least, is the animal behavior. Longer spawn distances - not by that much of course since they can't handle their engine well enough for that, e.g. if you're glassing mountains from a distance they'll still be empty, just like in COTW - better flight behavior. The animals look better, so do the weapons. Okay, that's it for the positive part. Most of the weapons are redundant. Most of them are also not included in the base game. If you want good stuff, you have to buy DLCs, lots of them. Graphics are generally better, but optimization is very poor. The devs are not all that great at their job, game has been out for >3 years, while most of the bugs - most, not all - are fixed by now, it's still not running well on older hardware. Damage system is primitive. No spinal or bone damage. Insta-kill, fast or slow bleedout or survival. It's simple, not realistic.Story ... if you hated all the cringe in COTW and were hoping for a more 'adult' writing style here, you'll be disappointed. Some of drivel this game passes for a story wouldn't be fit for 12 year olds, much less any adult.

As a hunting simulator, it's a lie, not even close. As a game, it's painfully boring. I like hunting in real life and I had have very good teachers. Then, it' unfair ask for real hunting mechanics; it's just a game afterall. But the wildlife ai and behaviour are horrible, almost robotic. It amaze me the skill that many animals have to "hide" from you. And the sound design is a mess, confusing you about the spacial location the sound is coming from (you could hear a fox 220mts away like if was beside you; I think this is for hint and lead you, but it's really cheap and uninmersive). In its envelope, WotH could look something serious, but lacks for any real deep. Maybe if they tweak some animal patterns and add some surviving mechanics, like eat, real sleeping (not only a way to skip forward the time) and such, could be a decent hunting game, but I guess they went for the simulation thing, wich it's a bad move in my opinion.

Amazing and beautiful game! I play on the highest difficulty level called Ranger. Beautiful forests, beautiful animals and gamplay. Very underrated and a very, very good game. I RECOMMEND!

A beautiful, fun, mostly realistic hunting simulator. The shooting is great, making you feel tense, amazed, satisfied from a clean kill, but also angry when you miss. It’s not as polished as it could be but if you like hunting games, you will not be disappointed here.

Way of the Hunter is an engaging hunting game. You’ll skulk around the bushes, experience some breathtaking views and unfortunately step not only in animal feces but also in a couple of bugs and simplifications. It’s obviously not a game for everyone, but it’s plenty satisfying and might devour a lot of your free time.

Best hunting game, very real and complex. The overall score here is way to low as what it is

Way of the Hunter is a deep and immersive hunting sim with beautiful visuals that fans of the genre will love. Unfortunately, its slow-burn gameplay and pacing, combined with the precise shooting mechanics make this game hard to recommend for new players.

Way of the Hunter brings us a hunting simulator that would have been a great experience. Due to its steep learning curve and various problems, it turned out disappointing.

A solid hunting sim, despite animals displaying behavioural problems and some bugs.

What holds Way of the Hunter back is that most of it doesn’t feel fully realized or polished. Performance is an issue, bugs are an issue, accessibility is an issue and, in many cases, the quality of the game’s systems are an issue. While I suspect things will improve over time, Way of the Hunter is a long way from where my expectations lie.

This game is too much of a mess to give a good score to. Its has some upside to it, but half of those features don't work. The graphics are good, but sound is god awful. Models are good most of the time with occasional T posing when running. Unfortunately there are too many game breaking issues should have been a $20 game

Way of the hunter was supposed to be the "killer" of TheHunter: Call of the wild and the basics are here - stunning visuals, interesting gameplay, a lot of "realism". The finished product however, lacks any polishing and should be in early access and development for at least six more months. At it's current state, Way of the hunter is barely playable and really not recommended. Pros: + stunning visuals + limited ammo (so you can't hold enough ammo to fuel medium sized war as in CoTW) + really impressive "claim prey" screen with a lot of information about the killing shot and the animal Cons: - a whole lot of bugs. Devs and paid reviewers are trying to sell the story of "few bugs here and there" but that's not true - terrible FOV with no options to change it - terrible and not-intuitive controls, with no options to change them as well - limited and boring collection of weapons and equipment - worst voice acting i have seen in the last few years - it's freezing a lot, it's crashing a lot and often saves are getting corrupted - co-op broken to extend to be unplayable - tracking is not really working. There are tracks showing where animals are usually going through, but the actual animals are not leaving tracks - "ghost bullets". Sometimes (like 25% of the shots) are not counted, even if you are 100% hitting the animal. No reaction, no blood, no kill And so on, the list can go for few pages. Way of the hunter is not worthy of your time, or your money - check it again in few months and after (hopefully) few big patches.
