Voidling Bound

Voidling Bound could use a few quality-of-life improvements, but is otherwise an excellent, fun-to-play, and incredibly unique entry into the creature collector genre. The game has a great setting, an appealing gameplay loop, and a nice message about conservation that manages not to feel preachy or in your face. I highly recommend this title for fans of the genre or those looking for a unique new shooter.

Voidling Bound is a phenomenal game with a lot of great parts that culminate in something truly unique. While it certainly isn't perfect and suffers from the same afflictions as similar games, what is there will keep players engaged and wanting more. If I could levy one major complaint against the game, it's that I want so much more of this game. Fantastic combat and a colorful world make Voidling Bound a game that's very much worthwhile.

Voidling Bound successfully channels the spirit of Skylanders while adding enough fresh ideas to stand on its own. A few rough edges keep it from greatness, but the thrill of discovering, evolving, and engineering new creatures makes the journey well worth taking.

Voidling Bound manages to blend a retro feel with elements of modern game design. The gameplay systems have surprising depth, which isn't really taken advantage of in fairly simplistic combat encounters. It's a game that's highly entertaining for a few hours, but fizzles out after the novelty wears off.

A compact-but-deep monster taming playset that’s built around (near) endless replayability and customisation. It looks great, and feels slick for the most part, but you’ll need to dial up the difficulty if you don’t want to burn through every stage in an afternoon.

Voidling Bound boasts a fantastic premise, blending creature collecting, evolution, breeding, and third-person shooter combat into a uniquely engaging experience that often feels like a mix of Spore, Risk of Rain, and Pokémon. Discovering new evolution paths, collecting parts, and experimenting with gene splicing provides plenty of creative enjoyment, but the game's potential is held back by uneven balance, simplistic combat, and an endgame that lacks meaningful challenge.
