theHunter: Call of the Wild clearly provides with a realistic feel of hunting. Seasoned hunters would adore it, but it may push away casual players.

A hunting simulator that looks great and is fun? Time for a Jagermeister!

In the end, theHunter: Call of the Wild is a more defined niche game in what is already a niche category. There isn't much appeal for hunting games to begin with, and an even smaller group wants a hunting simulator, especially when there is already a free-to-play version. However, this is a game that requires patience for both the hunting process and the bugs that come along with it. If you can live with that, and you're lucky enough to get a friend or two to join in, then you'll find the game to be a good time. Otherwise, try out the free-to-play version to see if this pacing is right for you.

Genuinely the most unfun I’ve had in a game for a while. Loaded up the game feeling excited to play a fun hunting game but instead I met a buggy mess where if you shoot the animals in the right places, guess what? They are unharmed and you have to track them for 20 minutes with god awful directions. The main story is a boring walking simulator where I walk to one side of the map, get in a 30 second dialogue, then go 1km the opposite direction to gather supplies. The only positive I can think of is the graphics, which are beautiful, any less would make this game similar to a burden. I couldn’t bare to spend more than 2 hours on this game and thank god when I got it it was on discount. 100GB of storage wasted. Do not bother buying this game unless you are an actual hunter, or you have no other options.

Freedom of exploration, complex ecosystem and breathtaking visuals result in an unbelievably strong sense of communing with nature, but horrible UI, some design flaws and common glitches undermine theHunter’s value. Nonetheless it’s a unique game worth checking out. [04/2017, p.52]

The Hunter: Call of the Wild aims to be the perfect hunting game thanks to aspects that has improved from its prequel, but it is not very consistent and has some bugs that affect the gameplay.

If hunting is your bag then theHunter is a game which could very much tick all the right boxes for you. Compared to the competition I’ve experienced this is right there at the top of the pile, and it’s a game which is only going to grow as Expansive Worlds continues to layer it with more content.

Boasts some beautiful, convincing countryside to hunt in, but the glacial pace will challenge the limits of most people’s patience.

TheHunter: Call of the Wild is a game that will appeal to those who have a genuine passion for hunting, but due to the general lack of content, a poor UI and the horrendous movement speed, I don't think those outside of the hunting world will enjoy it.

When theHunter: Call of the Wild works properly, it’s still going to be a game that only those with the patience of a saint would enjoy. It’s very slow, full of barriers, and isn’t very exciting. That’s not to say it’s not completely without merit as it’s a stunner to look at and there are rare occasions where everything comes together to make a compelling experience. Just note that those rare occasions are few and far between.

Fenomenal! It is the game I have more hours into... It captures very well the thrill of the hunt. This is not a simplistic shooter. You really have to use your head to be able to catch your prey. Like your ancestors did. And the atmosphere is realistic. A lot of locations throughout the world where to hunt. Very detailed graphics and maps. One of the best games ever made!

Hunter: Call of the Wild – or as I like to call it, Call of the Bored. Looking for a thrilling adventure where nothing happens for hours? Where the most action-packed moment is adjusting your crouch stance for the hundredth time? Congratulations, Hunter: Call of the Wild is your new spiritual home.Step into a breathtakingly empty world, where you’ll wander aimlessly through beautiful, lifeless landscapes that seem to have misplaced all their animals. It’s like a nature documentary — if David Attenborough took a vow of silence and all the animals called in sick. But don’t worry — if you do find an animal (after approximately 27.4 years of hiking), shooting it is a whole new level of impossible. Apparently, the wildlife in this game has military-grade surveillance and Olympic-level sprinting ability. They’ll hear your thoughts from 1,500 meters away and vanish like you just announced open season on ghosts. Your only chance of hitting something is mastering sniper-level accuracy while moonwalking uphill in a snowstorm. And should you miraculously land a shot? Great news! The animal won’t die. Instead, you’re rewarded with a riveting minigame called “Follow the Blood Trail Until You Die of Old Age.” It’s like Dora the Explorer for grown-ups, but with less excitement. And then there’s the menu system. Ever wanted to feel like you’re hacking into NASA just to change a loadout? Mission accomplished. It’s an ergonomic fever dream designed by someone who’s never played a video game — or used logic. So, if you’re craving an experience that’s part insomnia cure, part exercise simulator, and 100% existential crisis — this is your game. Bon appétit.

rather scummy game model. basic functions like tents and vehicle travel are paywalled, as are most good weapons. mods are mostly disabled so nobody but the devs can add new content (for cash that is). some quality-of-life mods are broken with the modern weapons pack - probably intentional. game is unstable, crashes often, which is very frustrating during missions where large distances are traveled. movement speed is locked to fps so don't play this with an older computer. the maps are great and the hunting is enjoyable sometimes, if you ignore the idiotic weapon physics and the fact that nothing is actually simulated, it's just animals randomly spawned in if you're near tracks long enough. don't buy this game.
SummaryExperience the thrill of the hunt in a vast open world. Immerse yourself in the atmospheric single player campaign, or share the ultimate hunting experience with friends.
