Tales from the Borderlands can easily compete against the hottest contenders on TV, not just on account of its writing, but also its cinematic beauty.
If you like a good story, or simply want to return to Pandora one more time, the game is easy to recommend. If you're looking for something that you actively play more than you watch, then you should probably pass on Tales from the Borderlands.

I can’t express how delighted I was with the first episode. Unfortunately later the game lost some of its magic and oscillated between decent and really good. Despite that fact it’s by far the funniest thing I’ve played in years and I can’t wait to get my hands on the second season. [13/2015, p.63]

A true to form, Telltale wonder-piece. Tales from the Borderlands captures the essence of Borderlands in a goofy and entertaining episodic story. All the newly introduced characters were enjoyable and every cameo showcased the respective personalities well. My only flaw was the lack of bazillion pieces of loot, but the rest of the game was very well done. If you like the Telltale style story games as well as the Borderlands franchise, this is definitely a must play.

Tales from the Borderlands may also be the best-looking game Telltale has ever produced.

This is, without a doubt, the finest series Telltale Games have produced to date. Whether you’re already a Borderlands fan or not, Tales From The Borderlands delivers an emotional, entertaining, and downright fun episodic adventure title.

If you’re looking for something to fill the gap between the inevitable current gen iteration of the Borderlands franchise, albeit with a much stronger focus on characterisation and story, then Tales from the Borderlands will more than satisfy your desire.

If you value humor and atmosphere above all else, go forth and enjoy Tales from the Borderlands. If not, you will have a hard time enjoying a cartoon without gameplay, freedom and bedazzling graphics.

My favourite Telltale game behind The Wolf Among Us, and probably objectively better than it. Also absolutely concur with everyone who says this is the best Borderlands game, because by far and away it is. I have my issues with Episode 5, but they're entirely personal and subjective ones. This game is genuinely funny, full of personality and with a plot that kept me engaged and invested in its characters and outcomes. Rhys is one of my favourite protagonists of all time, and I genuinely love how different he can be as a person depending on your choices (although, and this is one of my aforementioned issues with Ep5, he does end up railroaded into A Good Guy Accepted Into Found Family in the end no matter what because it's clearly the path they Wanted you to go down with him, which ****, but it is what it is). Generally in Telltale games you have a protagonist who's a set kind of person and you can only lean them a little in other directions (for instance, Lee from The Walking Dead could be angry with people but he was always fundamentally a decent guy who cared about protecting Clementine), whereas here, with Bigby from TWAU as the only other instance that comes to mind, Rhys can genuinely be a sweet, well-meaning dork or an ambitious, backstabbing villain. I wholeheartedly encourage people to try the Trust Jack path - I genuinely think that it's more interesting, engaging, and funny than the Trust Fiona/hostile to Jack alternative, and opens up more interesting choices. I played this before I ever played the main-line Borderlands games, and didn't go into it with a lot of knowledge about series lore. I think it did pretty well keeping things clear and giving me the necessary context, and I didn't struggle to follow along at all, so you can definitely get into this without playing the FPS games first if they're not your kind of thing. The only thing you'll really miss out on are full appreciation of some character cameos and in-jokes. Ultimately, this is Telltale at their absolute peak, and it's genuinely sad that more people haven't played this and given it a chance.

Good game, the story is quite funny, the mechanics identical to other Telltale games. Overall it was quite pleasant to play, but not outstanding.

I really don't know what the hype was/is for this game. It's supposed to be an adventure game, but in fact it's a game on rails. In only a handful of scenes you feel like you are adventuring a bit. It's a bog standard story about friends and heroes. I felt very little emotional connection, maybe just a little bit with the two sisters and a bit with rhys. That's it. If you are expecting an adventure game that grasps you by the throat and never let's you go, like the walking dead did, or life is strange ... don't expect it from tales of the borderlands. Sometimes, this game was funny and absurd ... it should have been A LOT more like this. Then maybe it would have been a good'ish game. I'll probably have forgotten this game and its story by next week...

SummaryLike all good tales, there’s more than one side to a story. Especially one about a Vault key, the Hyperion Corporation, bandits, loot, gangsters, Vault Hunters, secret Atlas tech, explosions, getaways, extortion, betrayal, and mayhem. Set after the events seen in Borderlands 2, Tales from the Borderlands is about Rhys, a Hyperion company... Read More
