It’s no secret that beat ’em ups are better in co-op, but it’s especially evident with SoR4. If you’re playing on your own, prepare to get juggled to death, but if you bring a friend or two – you’ll be the one having a party. [Issue#246, p.54]

It’s much more friendly towards newcomers than the arcade classics and yet it doesn’t put off the veterans of the genre. A sequel worth of its predecessors. [07/2020, p.76]
Simply put, this is the return that fans have been waiting for. Streets of Rage 4 delivers in so many ways that the $24.99 price point seems more than reasonable with all the included content, even with the short story mode. It may prove to be overwhelming for those unfamiliar with what it brings to the table, but you can’t deny how much love was put on the screen for beat-’em-ups and this franchise in general. If you can take the heat, you should absolutely jump in and send a signal that this is a game worth playing.

I have bought this game multiple times across different platforms and enjoyed it every time I have played it. It's not too long and just mind numbing violence is always fun. The art style is great and for a beat em up the controls feel clean

So the game is gorgeous and has a wonderful retro vibe, but it's a classic beat em up with the good and bad. This means that cheap hits can and do happen, difficulty is pretty doable and then Stage 12 exists to see how much you can hold until you either grind through or drop the game. But what I can say is that while other games invite me to push harder, explore more, and dig deeper, if you're in solo play, which I normally am, this game won't have much lasting power and the storyline is paint by numbers at best. Add a block/parry button and the game immediately becomes more enjoyable, but without it, it's easy to think that stages get cheap real quick and difficulty is arbitrary more than by design. In short, I think some tweaks would add plenty of life to the game and if you're into classic beat em ups, you will be a happy camper.

The hands down best beat em up game to ever exist. The art direction is on point, the fighting is fluid with rich options for customised move sets to suit player taste. The music is memorable and catchy. The characters unique and varied. Truly a master piece of gaming and im so lucky to have experienced playing this game over and over on multiple platforms.

Streets of Rage 4 left me feeling like a ten-year-old kid playing his Genesis again, while still managing to bring modern gameplay and variety to a classic series. There was no way for me to keep my expectations low with this series returning yet Lizardcube still managed to blow those expectations away. I can say without hesitation that this is the pinnacle of a long-dormant series and genre; a game I'm confident I'll be returning to for years to come.

It looks great, sounds great and plays great, and its appeal is so direct and immediate that whether you have hours to waste or just five minutes, it’ll send happy signals to your brain within seconds and last the duration. At eleven chapters it’s the perfect length, and yet I can’t help but feel that I’d keep playing for as long as it kept throwing me new chapters. Then again, “New Game” is right there. The same thugs will happily line right back up, likely with the added confidence of a higher difficulty setting, and I’ll be just as happy to keep punching them.

I didn't expect a SOR sequel to be released again. If everything is handled correctly, it will turn out great. Sega has cooked it. Bravo!

Streets of Rage 4 is an absolute triumph. It looks stunning, it sounds sublime, and it plays like a dream. SoR 4 delivers fistfuls of knock-down, drag-out action for fans old and new, all at a modest price. It's been a long wait for the Streets of Rage faithful, but comebacks rarely get much better than this. GRAND UPPAH!

Malditos Nerds
The best thing about Streets of Rage 4 is that it feels like a real comeback. In a world where everyone is rummaging through an old toy drawer to see what movie, series or game can be revived, this title feels like a natural step in the franchise. Of course, it's not a revolution in the genre because it repeats both virtues and failures from the past. Streets of Rage is back to stay.

A great comeback for the series, Streets of Rage 4 is a great game, with amazing gameplay and a killer soundtrack. It's a bit lacking in the extra content department, but what IS there, is great.

It’s the best kind of retro throwback, reminding us how hard these kinds of games could hit.

Streets of Rage 4’s simple approach to combat and content is enjoyable in short bursts, but it doesn’t have the hooks to keep you coming back. This beat ‘em up feels like an homage to the ‘90s, but it’s also stuck in that era.

A fantastic looking game, but the simple combat and extremely short campaign make me wanted way more. The bottom line for me on this one is just content; there just isn't enough of it. This even seemed extremely short for the standard beat em up, which are generally shorter games.

Fun for 10mn in co-op then extremely repetitive. I get bored after 2mn in single player. The gameplay is shallow and if you have not played the original games like me then there is not much to experience appart from boredom

A huge disappointment. Feels, and looks, wooden. No option to run for most (?) characters, just baffling. Look to the fan made Streets of Rage remake to see how things are supposed to work.
