While Steel Rats comes with elements that sound interesting on paper, the developer lacks the ability to combine them into a compelling package. It may be a game about an unconventional biker, but I would at least have wanted the developers to keep their hands on the handlebars to prevent this terrible mess.
Tate Multimedia tried to pack too much into Steel Rats for all of its parts to work together in a fun and cohesive way. It can be done, as proven by roguelike rhythm game Crypt of the Necrodancer, which stuck to the core elements of each genre. Frequently in Steel Rats, the solution is to use one tactic and move on, or skip it entirely rather than fumbling through the different genres. When this kind of gameplay meets the unassuming visuals and banal audio, the title becomes lackluster.
Mixing Sonic-style platforming with Trials-esque, inertia-driven gameplay, Steel Rats is a bold and often fun concept, but some awkward level design holds it back from matching the quality of its inspiration.

Final boss is soooooo broken. Beside this it's enjoyable and short Trials + combat mashup. It could use more attention, and maybe be a little simpler in the gameplay way. But it's fun!

Controls seems to be a little odd at the beggining, and the toutorial isn't super helpful. But. When you get familiar with them - it's easy going, simple arcade game.

Steel Rats is an awesome 2.5D platformer that makes great use of motorcycle based combat. The team of four bikers are badass and unique, prompting you to try them all out, and being able to switch between them on the fly keeps gameplay fresh.

If you wish Trials games had more killer robots and allowed you to move in a third dimension then Steel Rats is definitely worth playing.

A perfect game made by the Polish Team so that the next games will give a lot of nice gameplay.

A highly enjoyable and polished if relatively unambitious bike-fueled action romp, fans of high-octane action platforming will be served very well by Steel Rats.

I think I would have liked the game better if the characters were on foot or the bikes were less touchy. In the end, I give Street Rats some credit for its creativity because I haven’t seen a mashup of gameplay like this before. It’s fun and has a great sense of style that works with the world it’s trying to show off.

There is something enjoyable in Steel Rats, but there is a lot it doesn't get quite right. Against the other games of the season, Steel Rats just can’t compete, nor can it live up to the game most people will associate it with.

This is a really nice game for a really reasonable price. Motorbikes, robots and survival struggles given in good style.

Really good game with wonderful gameplay. It's something innovative and new. Very cool mixing platformer, bike and actions elements. Additionally there is a story behind it which adds depth to it. Art, locations and audio are simply beautiful. There are some minor issues and game can be improved but it's really enjoyable and relaxing experience.

Very nice game, with good performance. Nice levels but could be more intuitive and it could be more interacts with the player.

As a fan of Trials games, I really enjoy this take on motorbike physics VS combat styles. Being able to cut trough a bunch of junkbots and driving upside down is a trill ! I just would like to have more variation in the choice of skins. Besides some small bugs the game is really enjoyable and challenging!

When you will get used to the controls, you'll enjoy it more, for once, adding more challenges to a game that uses bikes feels natural, making the game in 2.5D open new doors to new challenges for both, the gamer and developer. Sometimes the game feels unfair, very frustrating, and quite hard, it surpasses that with the checkpoint system, but sometimes, we felt it could be better. combat feels out of place, needs some improvement, but it's already a step toward something new. The controls are a part of the challenge, the faster you master them, the better it gets!
