GREAT game. Makes splatoon 3 look like a joke. the gameplay is faster paced than 1 but slower than 2. The game still has people playing and actually has some merit to it. The story is the best in the series with plot twists and someone hecking dies its awesome. The main issue is the load times but hey its the switch soooooo I hope you werent expecting good times to begin with

This game franchise is one of my favourite. The game play is flawless and innovative. It's impressive to combine ink with shooter games and the art is definitely a 10 out of 10. However, as a multi-player game, this game has many places that needs to be improved. The game lacks a proper matchmaking system. It clearly employs an ELO-based ranking mechanism, resulting in frequent mismatches between highly experienced players and newcomers. As a result, neither group is able to fully enjoy the game. Server performance is another major issue. Players frequently encounter network lag, unstable connections, and unexpected disconnections, all of which negatively impact the overall experience. Weapon balancing is also poorly handled. Certain weapons are significantly stronger than others, leading to a highly uneven usage rate across weapons and gears. This imbalance becomes particularly apparent in ranked matches, where only a small number of weapons remain competitively viable. The map design is another weak point. Unlike many maps in Splatoon2, the maps in this game are generally smaller, flatter, and offer fewer alternative routes. This greatly benefits users of specific weapon types while limiting strategic diversity and reducing opportunities for counterplay. In addition, the DLC and updates introduced damage numbers and visible health bars. These features feel out of place within the game's established atmosphere, art style and world setting. They provide little practical value while increasing visual clutter and forcing players to process more on-screen information, ultimately detracting from the overall presentation rather than enhancing it.

Ive been a fan of this franchise since 2015 now, and the state of the game in 2026 is at its worse, I thought the game would be better with time and updates but no. Matchmaking is horrible, you'll be paired with either the biggests noobs or 7 000h players. Maps are original but even if you seem to find a good way to play on them you have to go faster and faster so you can keep up with opponents and even then, you get killed by Kevin the 10 stars charger across the map. Side order is a disappointment too, and don't get me wrong it's okay but you can just play 5 hours as it's the same levels with just different weapons, for the price I just expected better. Solo mode is okay but again nothing crazy, so much is recycled and it feels like a downgrade compared to the solo mode of Splatoon 2. The only thing that I really love is Salmon Run, a few maps added, king salmonids but AGAIN too much is recycled. Basically it feels like most of the time they took the worst of Splatoon 2 put it in the game and added things that nobody wanted or things that are just absurd. If Splatoon 4 exists one day I just hope that MATCHMAKING IS FIXED SO I CAN ACTUALLY PLAY THE GAME

As per usual the visuals are stunning and the OST is filled with bangers. However I can't rank this game higher due to all maps being made with competitive in mind and questionable updates. Not to mention that the story of the single player campaign is at its weakest.

This is Nintendo's best online multiplayer game. I have yet to have a problem with Splatoon 3's multiplayer, and they improve upon Splatoon 2 in everyway. from the guns to the gameplay, its beter in pretty much every way. But the problem I have is with the story mode, it feels so been there, done that heavy. If you put levels from Splatoon 2 and 3s story mode side by side i really couldn't tell you the difference between the two. but its still a very good and worthy pickup for the Switch.

REFINEMENT OVER REVOLUTION — THE SERIES REACHES ITS LIMIT: As of 2026, Splatoon 3 represents the most feature-complete version of Nintendo’s ink-flinging shooter. Between the solid "Return of the Mammalians" campaign and the 2025 Switch 2 performance patches, the game is undeniably polished. However, beneath the neon coat of paint, it remains a "safe" sequel that struggles to solve the core issues that have plagued the franchise for a decade. THE PROS: BEST-IN-CLASS SOLO CONTENT: Both the base campaign and the Side Order DLC offer creative, mechanically deep challenges that stand as a series high point. SWITCH 2 POLISH: The 2025 hardware update finally delivers the stable frame rates and resolution the chaotic "Salmon Run" mode always deserved. SMART MAP TWEAKS: Significant redesigns to original stages have successfully added flanking routes, slightly reducing the "choke point" frustrations of launch. REFINED MOVEMENT: The Squid Roll and Surge mechanics add a subtle but rewarding layer of skill to every encounter. THE CONS: FRUSTRATING CONNECTIVITY: Even in 2026, the reliance on peer-to-peer netcode leads to "communication errors" that feel out of place in a modern competitive landscape. INCREMENTAL INNOVATION: For veterans of Splatoon 2, this often feels more like a massive "Version 2.0" expansion than a bold new chapter. THE CATALOG GRIND: While the move to recycled seasonal rewards has helped, the sheer amount of time required to unlock gear and ability chunks remains a significant hurdle for casual players. THE FINAL VERDICT: Splatoon 3 is a great game but I feel that it is held back by its refusal to truly evolve. It is the best way to play Splatoon, but if you were already burnt out by the previous entries, there isn't enough reinvention here to change your mind. It is a stylish, fun, but ultimately familiar experience.

Seriously what is the problem with Splatoon 3 ? It fixed all of the modes of Splatoon 2, and people are mad about it. The only problem i saw is connexion, the miss of hair cuts if you want and that’s it. But maybe i am wrong, you can hate the game and that’s okay. Nobody can have the same review as everybody.

Multiplayer experience is fun and challenging, provided me lots of hours where i can casually drop in for a couple of games and log out. fits for casual player but still have high skill cap in the ranked mode. online match can definitely be challenging for kids. I wouldn't recommend that game for a single player experience.

The single-player leaves a lot to be desired. But the online… it’s bad not only because of connection issues oh no This game leans too hard toward the competitive side from match making to map design that gives you two routes that lead straight to the middle to the size of the maps actually this map philosophy affects everything in the game even ( Turf War )which is supposed to be more casual suffers from this In fact most of the game’s systems are not family-friendly for casual players The game relies so hard on FOMO — fear of missing out — to make sure the players stick around as much as possible so they keep subscribing to Nintendo Switch Online which there is no wrongdoing in but it’s kinda odd. Stuff that takes hours to complete in late-game content takes double the time in this game

Splat-goon is absolute shiet, I invested over 500 hours of my life into this game, and I can honestly tell you that it makes your skin shed. Don't buy this game. it's a Waste of money, has terrible matchmaking and all its single player modes are lazy and not worthwhile. 0/10 worse than dead island riptide

I’ve been playing for around 6 years. Both Splatoon 2 and 3 but recently my WiFi bugs out and I get a “communication error”, and I’m generously given a loss ALTHOUGH the game knows it was my WiFi and not me quitting the game, or leaving out of spite towards my team. If this persists It’ll probably assist in the games overall downfall; along with that just punishing people for having buggy WiFi is a terrible thing implemented into the game, I used to love the game but it's just gotten trash with balance changes too. Finally changing all the maps and weapon kits are making old players leave and never come back, the game has no nostalgia or connection towards the others in any way. 4/10

Very memorable story mode. Online is really fun and it should be how Nintnedo handles online in all games. I love how the seasons work in the game. The Splatfests are some of the best things Splatoon 3 has to offer. Just a really fun game overall.

I appreciate this game but the maps are something else, they **** so bad that it made me stop playing Splatoon, and I love this franchise, look at what they did to my boy Mahi Mahi Resort. If the maps were good, then this would be an easy 10.

This game is phenomenal. Splatoon 3 is truly a must-experience game. The graphics are beautiful, the style is unique, and it fits the game very well. The multiplayer is fast-paced, fun, and rewards the player for doing the objective, not just mindlessly killing in a slayer gamemode. The weapons are all very different from each other, and you can definitely find something that fits you. Salmon run is very fun and doesn't get stale as fast as other modes. I find myself coming back to it frequently, as it has a fun objective and rewards you for teamwork more than the other modes. The online is not great, I have a very good and fast internet, but I still am kicked out of games for no reason. This game makes me so happy when I play it, just because of the color, it is so colorful and happy. I still find this to be one of my top 3 favorite games I have played, even after a year of playing it.

Just recently found out about the game and absolutely love it, the weapons are so fun and the puns are genuinely funny. Tons of great help on YouTube with getting better with weapons but there is a big learning curve with using gyro controls. But I love it. But since the gameplay outside of the single player campaign which is pretty ok and side order which is so fun if you enjoy roguelikes. The multiplayer takes long to find a match and there are frequent disconnects that can get tiring at times. And if it was just that I would give it a 9 but because splatfest which is supposed to be a huge celebration of the game, ends up being the time I least want to play the game cause the turf War games are so sweaty that it becomes unfun and there’s no other online multiplayer mode to play outside of salmon run at this time so if you don’t like salmon run, you just can’t play that weekend

Amazing sequel and amazing game to end the trilogy. The gameplay online is so much fun and they improved a lot of things from previous chapters, with even festival matchs with 3 teams instead of two. The story mode is great, the Salmon Run is pretty fun and annoying at the same time, and the soundtrack is AMAZING as always.

This game is amazing. The single player is a step down from the first game and octo expansion though. I love the insanely fast paced meta and especially enjoy using splatanas. The biggest problem most people face is how tough the online is with how different it is than any other game but that’s not a bad thing, just makes the game harder to get into. I started with the 2nd game and loved it and splatoon as a whole. It is by far the worst one in my opinion and I still loved it. The map design and bad matchmaking are probably the biggest problems for me but other than that, it is pretty much perfect even if I enjoy the first one more. Also most of the negative reviews are people salty about the game who actually like it but had 1 bad experience with it.

As someone who was grew up playing the Splatoon series this is the best title yet! Splatoon 2 was graphically poor and didn't play to great and had many issues with hacking and lag but S3fixes almost all of that. The campaign is amazing and put the pin of the whole Grizzco mysterys but still leaved more to uncover. Overall great game highly recommend

Absolutely amazing game with an even better community. The game literally is designed to support a community with community events occurring all the time. It is also kind of a successor to miiverse. This game puts other shooters to absolute shame. The amazing art style, creative weapons, great vibes, and ZERO microtransactions (cough cough COD). Only complaint is NSO being needed for multiplayer.

First, I will say that I want this game to be good so badly, but it has been the absolute worst online gaming experience I've ever had. The mechanics, visuals, etc. are great, and it is the most creative shooter I can think of, but the online experience just ruins it. Matchmaking is abysmal at best. In fact, after hundreds of hours playing all modes, including X Battles, I'm not convinced there was even a good-faith attempt at creating a robust matchmaking system on Nintendo's part. As an example, I can literally go from having a 26-2 splat game, to like a 4-6 game consecutively. You cannot convince me that I am that inconsistent of a player. Additionally, many games only last 30 seconds because one team will simply wipe the other continuously, The P2P system for hosting matches illustrates in full living color just how lazy, cheap, and greedy Nintendo is. Someone disconnects during around 25% of my matches, thus ruining the match. Often, I will lose a teammate while we are about to win, and then ultimately lose the match due to that. Furthermore, sometimes a player will drop, followed by a precipitous exodus by the rest of the players from the match. Either way, the game basically punishes you for the poor internet connection of others. Instead, Nintendo should join us in the 21st century and have dedicated game servers. Oh, and did I mention the incredibly slow tick rate? Lag is another serious issue, especially when the game requires so much precision at a high level. They haven't even fixed the lag when you first enter the lobby area. That just screams sloppy and incomplete. Overall, the game was clearly rushed, and feels to me like it was more of a cash grab than anything else. I will not be buying a Switch 2 or Splatoon 4 due to my overwhelming frustration with this game. The only way Nintendo will ever learn anything is if sales drop. However, I doubt that since the game is so popular, especially in Japan. Anyway, thanks for an awful experience, Nintendo.

I felt like it was going to be a fresh game with new features, it was but I didn't feel that change from the previous game Mid story, entertaining but mid New weapons but they don't catch my attention at all Being able to change cities is cool, but I find it absurd that all the stores in the 3 cities sell the same things, it would be great if each city sold certain items and clothes from exclusive brands, for example you could find in Inkopolis but not in Splatsville The only good thing for me was Salmon Run, what I expected with this game was be able to choose the next scenarios as you can do in Teamfortres 2

Every aspect of multi-player is a grindfest, want weapons? Grind tickets on other weapons. Want badges? Grind multi-player. Want a bigger locker? Get to level 30. Want to get more tableturf cards? You guessed it. Doesn't help that FOMO is sprinkled in with fests that are still just 48 hours, the catalogs, the challenges with unique rules that you arent allowed to enjoy with a group of friends and even big runs are subject to that. Speaking of big runs. Egg lag being worse, performance drops at launch on some maps, grinding to get scales, (an issue that was alleviated an insane 2 years after launch) no checkpoints, (they were added a year after launch(they were in base game splatoon 2)) still not being able to pick from all difficulties available even in private matches (maxes out at 200% when the max is 333%) And other mechanics introduced to artificially bring back players, the daily shellout machine pull, the 1st win exp bonus per day. Map related bugs like clipping in the rotating walls on wahoo world, which got patched out after being discovered in S2, returned in S3 at launch. Map design is generally more linear. There's no 3rd kit. And more things like 12hrtz refresh rate making only 1/5 input on your end mattering (movement wise) but the kicker is that squid surge got introduced and rewards guesswork if you're not parrying a bomb which is predictable. Like the scenario that was shown in the trailer of doing a squid surge against a charger, that would be frame perfect on 2 players end, for the one shooting and the one parrying.

I must admit, I have a bit of bias towards this game, it has lots of weapons, maps, abilities, and gear, and has a decent story mode. The lore is extremely deep, but you often have to over-complete single-player, or research it online to see it. Multiplayer has a decent selection of game modes, and X-battles are good for better players. Unfortunately, the game had a shorter-than-hoped lifespan at only two years, and content updates have ceased, so I would not recommend purchasing a copy now. The decision to make matchmaking Peer-to-peer (one player is picked as host randomly, and console connect to the host) was questionable, and causes frequent disconnections.

My kids are liking it but it could be so much better as it is! Wasted potential for sure. It´s sad that there is no Splitscreen mode, you can just play it online vs others and everybody needs an own switch with own internet access. It´s an modern thing I know but still, splitscreen would be king here. I also never played an "kids game" which has so complicated and hard to understand menu navigation. The story mode is also really meh...

Now that major updates are done for splatoon 3, it’s safe to say this is the worst game in the series. As a stand alone game, splatoon 3 is a 7/10, maybe an 8/10, but as the 3rd game in the series and the 2nd one in the same console, this game is a 4/10 maybe even less. Splatoon 3 fails in almost every aspect as a sequel, my main problems being the atrocious map design, the new lackluster update cycle, boring and stale balance patches, almost no new modes, the new modes that were added were either time limited, poorly balanced, or boring, the main attraction since splatoon 1 (splatfests) were completely butchered, side order getting old very fast, etc… This game had the potential to be the best game in the series, we had the best at launch story mode, better special design, but the negatives FAR outweigh the positives.

Pretty well balanced game and personally my favorite game of all time Good singleplayer to teach newcomers how the game works and lots of weapons to choose from to fit your playstyle. The competitive side of the game is really cool too and a lot more interesting than something like COD or Rainbow Six Siege. People who call it a kids game are really annoying because the same thing happened to fortnite before more people started playing it because it was fun.
