So let us talk about SoulQuest this game clearly set itself out to be focused on one particular aspect to set itself apart and create an extremely engaging experience and that is the combat. SoulQuest has some inspiration from previously released Character Action Games clearly shown by the style ranking on the side of the HUD that pushes you to want to shoot the ranking higher and higher which is just the feedback needed to make the game more interesting.SoulQuest does deliver for the story mode the story is engaging and voice acting helps you further immerse yourself into the story which has a familiar feel which isn't a negative it just creates a comfortable story to engage with as you become a torrential vortex of combos slaying enemies left and right. I recommend this game for people that love the feeling of being powerful while also getting challenged by the game, the only hurdle I see people encountering that may create some friction is the gaps before checkpoints but it is a necessary system to have players experience constant risk analysis.

Soul Quest is a fast paced 2D action platformer set in a Celtic inspired world where you play as Alys on a mission to challenge the gods and reclaim her husband’s soul. The game stands out with its detailed pixel art, strong atmosphere, and a story that keeps you engaged. The characters and voice acting add personality, while the Celtic-inspired soundtrack really helps bring the world to life. Boss fights also feel meaningful and tie well into the overall theme. Where the game struggles is in its balance and gameplay flow. Combat and platforming feel solid early on but become more frustrating as difficulty ramps up, with enemies taking too long to defeat while dealing heavy damage. This shifts the pacing into a repetitive pattern instead of encouraging creative play. The lack of defensive options limits how you can approach encounters, and combined with occasional clunky controls and platforming issues, it can lead to moments that feel unfair rather than challenging. Overall, it’s a game with a strong foundation and a lot of potential, but it needs better balance and refinement to fully deliver on what it sets out to do.
