With the look of a Pixar film and the wit of Monkey Island, SOPA: Tale of the Stolen Potato is a creative combination of heart, charm, and genuine laughs that is sure to satisfy the whole family.

An adventure that perfectly balances absurdity and irreverence, yet beneath it all, holds tight to a story about the love between a grandmother and her grandson — with a delicious meal as the bond that brings them together. Straight to the heart.

StudioBando delivers a charming, family-friendly adventure with clever puzzles, expressive animation, and heartfelt humor inspired by Latin American culture, though its less polished action segments, repetitive music, and minor bugs slightly hold back an otherwise magical and imaginative experience.

I love story/puzzle games like this because they always have amusing dialogue that's an actual joy to read every word, the only bad thing about these games for me is I have such a hard time figuring out what to do next or what items to use, thankfully the majority of this game was pretty straightforward unlike other games in this genre I've played, but I still ended up having to look up guides for solutions 5 separate times which takes away from the journey. Overall, the other worldly wonderland mysterious vibes were all on point, the frogs were hilarious & the facial expressions of everyone were top notch including all the dialogue. The game is a bit on the short side, but the ending hinted at a DLC or sequel though which is exciting to look forward to.

It's a cute, the art is nice. I really wanted to give it a far try, because it is rough to play. It was okay, until I ran into the gratuitous costeño stereotype in the game (I believe his name is Renato). They literally had him drunk on a corner and being drunk was his entire personality. While the game's identity relies heavily on costeño culture, it's a shame that cachacos always seem to take a cheap shot at costeños and let their regional biases get in their own way.

SOPA – Tale of the Stolen Potato is a lovely adventure title that shows just how creative storytelling you can be with the smallest of foods. It encapsulates a piece of Latin America within its gorgeous art, enchanting music, and engaging puzzles. Technical issues do eventually compound to make for a bit of a cumbersome experience, but I can look past that to recommend this adventure to all.
